2 Antique Buyers in the Gold Coast Area With Covid having forced us to spend plenty of time at home, many of us have taken to sorting our drawers and cupboards. Now is a fantastic opportunity to turn those unwanted items into cash. “We are keen buyers, especially of the items listed on our advert (see page 3). Everyone has something we want to buy, and nothing is too small for our consideration. We are just as happy to buy one item, as we are buying 10,000!”, says Mike Cornish, chief buyer for the company. The buyers will be in a convenient location in the area very soon (see page 3). If you are in doubt about any items you wish to sell, take them in for an instant appraisal. Especially wanted by the buyers are any gold jewellery items, broken or not, antique jewellery, collectables such as military medals, old coins and banknotes, and mechanical watches. Gold and Silver still at high prices With the gold price still at higher than traditional levels, right now would be an opportune time to go through the jewellery box and dig out those old gold chains, rings and brooches and turn them into cash. Mike says, “Now is a great time to sell. We will buy anything made of gold – old jewellery, coins, virtually anything, even gold teeth! We also need silver in any form, including cups, cutlery, old coins, even teapots and the like.” Old coins can toss up a rarity Check those drawers and cupboards, you may have a rarity lurking amongst your coins. “We want to see any old foreign coin accumulations. We will be quite happy to go through your coins on the spot and give you an idea of what we can pay. You just never know what can turn up!” Rolex and mechanical watches wanted Mechanical watches are needed urgently by the buyers. “Collectors at this stage want brands such as Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, Tag Heuer, and Longines, just to mention some. These brands can command good prices depending on the condition and model. In any event we will buy any mechanical watch, even if it’s only a few dollars for parts,” says Mike. “If you are unsure, bring any watches to us at the venues to have them appraised,” he said. Whilst we have a Covid safe environment at the venues, we also offer home visits for those unable to come to us. See our advert for home visit slots and get in touch to book yours in. See advertisement page 3 for details > Book lovers and storytellers rejoice for the 31st annual Somerset Storyfest Writers' Festival! 4 We are pleased to welcome Violet Kinnaird to our team... With four years of experience selling homes in the Northern Gold Coast, Violet may be a familiar face for some of you! We are so excited to have Violet onboard and a part of our team! Check out our recent client reviews: "Being a builder and developer for over 40 years the experience we had with Belinda and her team was probably the best experience we have had for a very very long time. She was very professional, very accurate with the price and the results say it all - within seven days the house was sold. She was never pushy for us or the buyer, just very well experienced. Highly recommend Belinda Beekman and her team" “We've had the privilege of working with Donna to sell our property on two occasions. Her performance was exceptional the first time, and we knew without a doubt that we'd return to her when we decided to sell again. We deeply appreciate the trust we placed in Donna, and each time, she exceeded our expectations. Donna isn't just a fantastic real estate agent; she's also a delight to collaborate with. If you're seeking someone who consistently goes the extra mile to ensure that selling your home is a delightful experience, Donna is the name to remember. Thank you, Donna, for your unwavering dedication and for making this process as stress-free as it can be!” "Violet was a pleasure to deal with when selling our property. She was approachable and informative and willing to go the extra mile to accommodate our selling price expectation. Violet was very proactive in getting our property on the market as quick as possible and conducted multiple open houses. Violet was efficient, knowledgeable, friendly and approachable. I would highly recommend Violet Kinnaird." TMR Deputy Director General, Customer Services, Safety and Regulation Geoff Magoffin said Queenslanders could now carry their driver licence, marine licence or photo identification on a mobile device. “This will provide convenience for the thousands of Queenslanders who already have everything else in their phone, including their loyalty cards, bank and credit cards,” Mr Magoffin said “Queenslanders can leave their wallet at home and enjoy the benefits of carrying their digital licence on their phone, safe in the knowledge their personal information is secure and private.” He said the Queensland digital licence met international standards for verifying, authenticating and keeping personal information safe, secure and private. “You can choose how much information you share and with whom you share it,” Mr Magoffin said. “This means your private data remains safe and secure while sharing only the necessary information to meet specific requirements. Additionally, the app incorporates robust security protocols which have been rigorously tested. These security measures safeguard your private information from identity theft and fraud.” The digital licence is optional and all Queenslanders will still receive their physical cards in the mail, even if they choose to go digital. “TMR recognises people have different preferences and not everyone may be ready to embrace the digital licence,” Mr Magoffin said, “so physical driver licences and other photo cards will continue to be issued.” The digital licence is free and accessible by downloading the Queensland Digital Licence app from your app store. “You don’t need to wait for your physical licence to expire before getting the digital licence,” Mr Magoffin said. “One of the big advantages of the digital licence is that information updates instantly. So, if you change your address or upgrade your licence class, you will see that information straight away.”

DEAL DIRECT & SAVE! ORMEAU LEGAL | HILTON HARTLEY LAWYERS Pre-nuptial Agreements The last thing that anyone thinks about in a new relationship is making sure that they protect their financial interests. This is even more important when you are in better financial position than your partner or if you have children from a prior relationship. You can ensure that you protect your financial interests in the event of a break down in your relationship by entering into a Binding Financial Agreement at any stage of your relationship. This Agreement can set out what property is to be kept separate and how any joint property that accumulates during the relationship should be dealt with. Before entering into a Binding Financial Agreement both parties MUST seek independent legal advice. Where you and your partner are in agreement as to the terms of the Binding Financial Agreement, we can provide our services to draft the Agreement and provide you with legal advice (or to just provide advice where the Agreement may have already been drafted) on a fixed fee basis. This means that you will have certainty of what you will need to pay in order to have a legally binding and enforceable Agreement in place. Rotary Club of Ormeau-Pimpama Bus Presentation to E-Suarve A capacity crowd was in attendance to celebrate the handover of the $77, 000 Toyota 12-seater bus which was donated by The Rotary Club of Ormeau-Pimpama to the local not for profit charity youth support group Esuarve, at the function room of the Pimpama Tavern on Tuesday night. Guests included The State Opposition Leader and Member for Broadwater, Mr David Crisafulli, the Federal MP and Member for Forde, Mr Bert Van Manen, State Member for Coomera Mr Michael Crandon, Division 1 Councillor Mr Mark Hammel, sponsor partners, members, and guests including Rotary District Governors and associated Rotary Clubs. The funding and donation of the bus was made possible with the generosity of local businesses, and individuals from our wonderful community who were acknowledged on the night. The bus will carry the names of the sponsor partners. RCOP President Russell Mowles opened proceedings with Mr Crisafulli presenting a dynamic speech on youth crime, followed by Division 1 Councillor and Rotarian, Mr Mark Hammel who officially handed the bus over to the Esuarve Co- founder and Director Jo Te PuniFromont on behalf of the Rotary Club of Ormeau- Pimpama. Mr Te Puni-Fromont responded and gave a brief outline of the Esuarve group who are having outstanding results in turning the lives around of disengaged youth in our community and beyond. Past President and Rotarian, Wayne Hosier closed proceedings and thanked the Gold Coast City Council, and all levels of Government on the announcement of the land allocation for the proposed construction of a PCYC to be located on land opposite Pimpama City Shopping Centre. The Rotary Club of Ormeau-Pimpama has been a strong campaigner and advocate for the PCYC and has worked closely with Mr Crandon and Mr Hammel. The RCOP wishes to thank all sponsor partners and individuals who made the presentation of the bus to Esuarve possible, and to the large crowd who attended on the night to celebrate the event. A big thank you was also extended to the Pimpama Tavern for their ongoing support. We welcome new members to join our very progressive club in support of community needs. 9 Microchipping and why it is so important What is a microchip? A microchip is a small chip encased in a glass cylinder (about the size of a grain of rice) with a unique identification number that can be detected with a microchip scanner. Unlike a collar or tag that could be lost or removed a microchip is a permanent and reliable means of identification for them. The microchip number is recorded on a microchip database registry with details about the animal and owner. It’s important to note that a microchip alone is not enough to ensure your pet’s safe return. It’s crucial that pet owners keep their contact information up-to-date with the microchip company. Also, a collar and ID tag is a good additional identification method to ensure your pet can be easily identified in case it’s found by someone who is not able to scan for a microchip. If you have any questions about your pet’s microchip please give the team at Pimpama City Veterinary Surgery a call on 07 5670 8971 and they can help you out. 13 SOCIOPATH A Memoir By Patric Gagne ‘Your friends would probably describe me as nice. But guess what? I can’t stand your friends. I’m a liar. I’m a thief. I’m highly manipulative. I don’t care what other people think. I’m capable of almost anything.’ Sociopath: A Memoir is at once a mesmerizing tale of a life lived on the edge of the law, a redemptive love story and a moving account of one woman’s battle to create a place for herself and the 5% of the population who are also - like her - sociopaths. Ever since she was a small child, Patric Gagne knew she was different. Although she felt intense love for her family and her best friend, David, these connections were never enough to make her be ‘good’, or to reduce her feelings of apathy and frustration. As she grew older, her behaviour escalated from petty theft through to breaking and entering, stalking, and worse. As an adult, Patric realized that she was a sociopath. Although she instantly connected with the official descriptions of sociopathy, she also knew they didn’t tell the full story: she had a plan for her life, had nurtured close relationships and was doing her best (most of the time) to avoid harming others. As her darker impulses warred against her attempts to live a settled, loving life with her partner, Patric began to wonder - was there a way for sociopaths to integrate happily into society? And could she find it before her own behaviour went a step too far? The Mississippi River, 1861. When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a new owner in New Orleans and separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson’s Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father who recently returned to town. Thus begins a dangerous and transcendent journey by raft along the Mississippi River, toward the elusive promise of free states and beyond. As James and Huck begin to navigate the treacherous waters, each bend in the river holds the promise of both salvation and demise. With rumours of a brewing war, James must face the burden he carries: the family he is desperate to protect and the constant lie he must live. And together, the unlikely pair must face the most dangerous odyssey of them all . . . From the shadows of Huck Finn’s mischievous spirit, Jim emerges to reclaim his voice, defying the conventions that have consigned him to the margins. 14 Peachey CG News President Mia’s Tip Did you know that strawberries are one of the few fruits that have their seeds on the outside? Strawberries are in season right now. Our local Jacobs Well farmers are planting up runners now. They love growing on raised mounds. These are so satisfying for kids to watch grow and eat. What to grow this month from Mia 1st Quarter of the new moon -Plant leafy vegetables. My choice for fruity vegie is beans, capsicum, chilli, luffas, squash, corn and tomatoes. After the full moon week- Plant root vegetables. Beetroots, carrots, leeks, onions, radishes, potatoes and sweet potatoes. A great tip is to plant carrots and onions or leeks together and give them plenty of sun. Herb of the month with Annemaree Heartsease, also known as: Johnny Jump Ups, wild pansy, Cuddle me, and Viola Tricolour This adorable little flowering plant is an annual, looking like a miniature pansy with purple, yellow and white flowers. You can put five of the flowers into a teacup and add boiling water for a cuppa, may require a teaspoon of honey, great for sore throats, swollen tonsils as it acts as an anti-inflammatory, agent, a tonic for good health and apparently a blood purifier. If you allow the tea to steep for up to 10 minutes, the flavoured water can be used for a wash to treat childhood eczema, cradle cap, dandruff and dermatitis. The flowers being edible can be added as a garnish on salads and sweet dishes. It can be grown in sun or shade and is a welcome addition to any garden. Picking the flowers will lengthen the life of the little bush. One that always brings on a delightful splash of colour in any garden patch. Enjoy! Free to beautify your space. Bring buckets bring your trailer fill them with bark chips for your gardens, walkways, under swing sets, etc. The storm season has delivered to us huge amounts of chips that we don’t have space for.
