What to grow this month from Mia 1st Quarter of the new moon -Plant leafy vegetables. My choice for fruity vegie is beans, capsicum, chilli, luffas, squash, corn and tomatoes. After the full moon week- Plant root vegetables. Beetroots, carrots, leeks, onions, radishes, potatoes and sweet potatoes. A great tip is to plant carrots and onions or leeks together and give them plenty of sun. Herb of the month with Annemaree Heartsease, also known as: Johnny Jump Ups, wild pansy, Cuddle me, and Viola Tricolour This adorable little flowering plant is an annual, looking like a miniature pansy with purple, yellow and white flowers. You can put five of the flowers into a teacup and add boiling water for a cuppa, may require a teaspoon of honey, great for sore throats, swollen tonsils as it acts as an anti-inflammatory, agent, a tonic for good health and apparently a blood purifier. If you allow the tea to steep for up to 10 minutes, the flavoured water can be used for a wash to treat childhood eczema, cradle cap, dandruff and dermatitis. The flowers being edible can be added as a garnish on salads and sweet dishes. It can be grown in sun or shade and is a welcome addition to any garden. Picking the flowers will lengthen the life of the little bush. One that always brings on a delightful splash of colour in any garden patch. Enjoy! Free to beautify your space.
