Keep the mulch up to retain as much moisture in your soil, if your soil has great microbes like us, they will do most of the work for you. Peachey will continue to rest a few of our beds as members are away, also the hot winds barrage the moisture out of the plants, covering plants with fine mesh will protect fruit trees and vegies until the cooler weather comes. When we are ready to plant the beds up, we will have soil that can take deep roots and grow great crops. Your crops are only as nutritious as the soil they are grown in. Remember our bodies are just like this earth, we are as vibrant as the food and environment we live in. “Look deeply into nature and you will understand everything,” said Einstein. Nature mirrors how it is treated, I believe our minds and bodies mirror the choices we make or are subject to. Herb of the month Perennial Basil This amazing herb will grow and flower all year round! The bees love it. The bush has a stronger flavour then your sweet Basil, so you simply use less of it! Great in salads, pesto and all-time favourite… on pizzas. Basil has this awesome effect of alkalising tomatoes, no wonder they are great for your taste buds! This one also makes a great bath vinegar which also acts as an antiseptic. Basil contains vitamins A,B,C and K. The minerals content are calcium, iron, copper, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, sodium, magnesium, and manganese. Appreciates full sun, regular watering, and good drainage. Happy gardening and a healthy life, Cheers, Annemaree. Thank you. To the many locals who showed kindness to each other over the Christmas season. Ormeau has an amazing people group who really do care. I saw people giving food, clothes, furniture, toys, acts of service; these feed our souls. Often the silly season can be draining with all the consumption and expectation. Thank you to the power of community, the people in your neighbourhood are there for you, to spread hope and remind us that human kindness is the greatest gift to give each other at this time and all year round. Thankyou Kimberley for posting on a few pages the question what would you like for Christmas that you can’t afford? People loved this!! People connected, shared needs and worked together, THIS is community, I was excited to hear the enthusiasm and extent to which people want to help each other. Divided we are vulnerable and guarded. Together we can achieve much. Community Share Chest Kiki is the “Keeper of the cupboard”, on site at Peachey. The Community Pantry chest is filled with handy items and nonperishable food for all who need. Kiki says, “Take what you need, leave what you can”. For all of us. This is the power of community; this makes my heart sing. Please don’t throw it away. That thing that you think your done with, take a photo and send it to peacheycg@ gmail.com or 0424 171 019, we may be able to use it or know someone who needs it. Each month we have free share, not everything needs to go to the tip. Upcoming Events In 2023 we launched the Peachey Parties. This gave locals a free platform to present their skills and see how people responded. We saw up to 8 young entrepreneurs presenting their jewellery, slime, beverages, and ingenuity. We had over 40 different youngish business owners strutting their stuff. Congratulations to you all, the effort it takes to create your own business is rewarded in freedom. 2024 we will be playing with the Art Intuitive Hub concept, the Young Entrepreneurs Club, the children’s village concept, and growing plenty of produce to share with you all.
