10 Garden lovers are spoiled for choice through SEPTEMBER. Some of the loveliest private gardens and landscapes are opening on successive weekends in Currumbin Valley and on Tamborine Mountain. The first OPEN GARDEN on September 19th and 20th is the popular Tani Tai En, 519 Currumbin Valley Rd, Currumbin Valley, open to raise funds for two local charities. Eleven creekfront acres have provided space for different garden styles, melding into one of the finest garden experiences, including a spectacular Japanese Garden and Teahouse, rainforest walks, an orchard and various themed gardens – all sheltered by magnificent trees. Imagine 110 Camellias in one garden, along with swathes of Azaleas, Maples and an understorey of annual flowers and bulbs. Naturally, it’s called Camellia House! Wander through a reborn rainforest, where the owners have restored the mountain’s biodiversity in the shelter of 97 gums, and encouraged birds and other wildlife. Over 1800 rainforest species, planted across a hectare, now thrive where once there was privet. Five of the six gardens are new to opening, reminding us of the diversity of garden styles, mixture of plants and features in the gardens of Tamborine Mountain. The climate and the soils enable plants from a wide breadth of environments and climates. OPEN GARDENS are a reward for visitors and a gift from the gardeners willingly sharing the experience of their beautiful and bountiful gardens. There will be plenty of opportunities to purchase plants at Tani Tai En and at the Open Gardens.
