6 Solo Dining Made Simple: Frozen Meals that Nourish and Delight “What’s for dinner tonight?” It’s a question that can feel surprisingly hard to answer when you’re cooking for one. For many over-50s, especially those living alone, the joy of cooking can fade. Downsizing recipes, dealing with leftovers, or facing a quiet kitchen without company can make mealtimes feel more like a chore than a pleasure. As we move into new chapters of life—retirement, empty-nesting, or adjusting to health needs—our approach to food often needs to change too. Appetite shifts, mobility issues, or even the loss of a partner can turn cooking into a daily struggle rather than a creative outlet. Add in the rising cost of groceries, limited freezer space, and the effort involved in preparing a meal from scratch, and it’s no wonder many older Australians are seeking simpler, smarter solutions. That’s where Gourmet Meals steps in. Designed with seniors in mind, Gourmet Meals offers a wide range of delicious, nutritionally balanced frozen meals that are ready in minutes. Unlike generic supermarket options, these are chefprepared, portion-controlled, and tailored to meet your changing dietary needs. In 1787, a fleet of eleven ships left Portsmouth in England bound for Botany Bay. They arrived on 18th January 1788, but the commander, Captain Arthur Phillip, rejected this area and moved the fleet to Port Jackson, landing on 26th January. What we often forget is that not all those who landed that day were convicts – on board were also marines, their wives and children, ships’ crews and some passengers. While exact numbers will never be known ( many seamen were not recorded), it is thought that around 1500 people landed, establishing New South Wales. A Google search will help you investigate whether you had an ancestor among those first fleeters. Several organisations and government entities list those who sailed - perhaps begin with the Australian National University - https:// www.anu.edu.au/ - School of History, which has an extensive database by ship and by name, and also identifies whether the passenger was a convict, marine or family, or crew. The most important thing to remember when doing this research is to work backward from yourself until you come to one of these folk. Do not just select a person and try to prove you are related to them – the same surname does not mean there is a kinship.
