21 To be quite frank with you, I don’t always feel like dancing, nor dancing the night away, because I’d definitely have to go to the Physio in the morning. And pay for it big-time. What was even more annoying, was the wave of momentary jealousy I felt watching this performer do exactly that - at the sold-out Twin Towns showroom. Some might suggest he should act his purported age, lean against a classy grand piano and sing from atop a chrome-legged bar stool. A Frank Sinatra / Dean Martin style of show. But no, none of that. This bloke is so energetic that he was up for being his own support act, if needed. At 77, Leo Sayer bounced onto the stage and was right into the first song like it was his third after a pre-show practice. Full on, confident, pin-point clarity and pitch-perfect. I remember shaking my head and muttering how is this possible? A spot of research revealed just how. Leo has been on tour all over the place. A seasoned show veteran with an absolutely engaging warm and comedic style, his delivery is one of fun and calmness. Leo Sayer is an amazingly musically complex person. Vocally - his harmonies, melodies and timing are the solid building blocks of successful songs. As a writer, his wordcraft ranges from repeatably and joyfully simple three chord classics to storytelling on a grand scale. The funky reggae arrangement that we know as “Moonlighting” is a great example of the wonder-filled distraction to his words. Because music is simply his carrier of this intriguing tale based on a true personal tale. And then there’s his harmonica. The duel with his lead guitarist cemented in my mind Leo Sayer is a genius. To top the show off, he called up out of the audience Marshall Hamburger to sing with. The winner of the 10th season of Australian Idol in 2025. Such a magnificent night What a generous entertainer! Go see him. Leo Sayer Seventh Wonder - Sings Fleetwood Mac with the Brisbane Pops Orchestra
