The new program offers more than 850 free and low-cost nature-based workshops, events and activities for people of all ages to connect with the local environment. City of Gold Coast Acting Mayor Donna Gates recently launched the new program at the Benowa Botanical Gardens. “Each year, our NaturallyGC program connects more than 14,000 Gold Coasters with the great outdoors,” said Cr Gates. “This year, it’s as important as ever for us to swap screen time with green time. “From guided bushwalks, tree planting, nature photography, wildlife shows, citizen science and learning about indigenous culture – there really is something for everyone. “The Gold Coast is one of Australia’s most biodiverse cities, and I encourage the community to get out and explore any of our 13,600 hectares of open space and 790 natural park areas. “For those who love the creature comforts of their own home, there are a range of online activities that will get you off the couch and exploring your own backyard.” The City funds a range of specific workshops for the program but also provides support to various community organisations that deliver a range of environmental education programs for the community to enjoy. You can download the NaturallyGC program at cityofgoldcoast.com.au/naturallygc The NaturallyGC program currently operates under a COVID Safe Plan to ensure the health and safety of participants. It is essential to register for events and adhere to the latest Queensland Health advice.
