GOLD COAST FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY AI Assisting Research AI capabilities for genealogical research help make distances and accessibility easier for us today but while useful, there’s still a need to use discretion with the results AI offers. Some things to consider. Ask for references to check accuracy and reliability of the results. Available information doesn’t mean it’s correct. Check Authors and/or Institutions credentials. Transcription and analysis – Old or damaged documents, scratchy writing or unfamiliar formal text and abbreviations can be fully or partly transcribed. Historical context - Ask for a description of life in another time. Housing, occupations, incomes, notable events with images. Translation - Legal documents, birth, death and marriage records and other, used Latin with English after the initial Roman influence. Foreign languages can also be transcribed. Narration - Have your research notes turned into a family story. Specify particulars like a person, family, date or place. Revision and Clarification of a particular text - Legal documents for one can be challenging to comprehend but anything wordy can be simplified. DNA relationship analysis to a particular person or people can be explained. Images can be reviewed and analysed to give time frame, location or an image can be created to make someone years younger/older and dressed for another time frame. Basically, enjoy, have fun and learn as you go but please check all references and keep them with your notes. For help with producing your family tree, you may like to join the Gold Coast Family History Society. For a modest yearly fee, you will have access to a comprehensive library, many worldwide subscription websites, and fellow researchers prepared to help you get started or break down any brick walls you may encounter.
