Mirusia, who has appeared on literally millions of albums as the sparkling voice of Andre Rieu’s waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra, was the effervescent star at Redcliffe’s wellappointed Entertainment Centre. Mother’s Day has always been a favourite time for Mirusia to share exceedingly beautiful music. When hearts are just that little bit softer, when memories of gentler times rise and nudge to one side the harsher realities of this present life. No other time is the age variance of an audience greater, than on the second Sunday in May every year. A fact not lost on Mirusia. Mums and daughters with dads, and sons who knew they ought to, all enter the Auditorium. They just don’t know it yet. The band of Shane, Rueben and Elias are tux-ed up matching the stylishness of the stage and elegance of the exquisite gown that Mirusia glides in from behind the curtains. She’s wearing another vital piece – her radiant smile. So welcoming. We are in good hands this afternoon. Performing in full voice the repertoire of pure Classics, Operas and “Poperas”, Musicals and gentle songs, there’s a rediscovered sense of emotional beauty which is unashamedly uplifting. The dust of the “everyday” was easily washed away with song selections of “Ave Maria”, “You Raise Me Up” showcased by South African Tenor Jeandré le Roux. Surprisingly, John Farnham’s famous “Burn for You” was delivered superbly by Liam Waldock, while Mirusia shared her new song out now, “I’ll Never Dim Your Fire”. If that wasn’t enough, her little daughter sang the most gorgeous version of Nat King Coles’ L.O.V.E. The muffled sound of tissues being pulled from purses was itself moving. And for something completely different... probably one of the best comedic ad-lib merchandise breaks I have ever seen. It involved the band spontaneously playing a Bossa Nova groove to Mirusia sashaying around the stage with photographs and albums in her hand. Deeply satisfying music, it’s maximum feel-good. This by far, was the best Mirusia concert I’ve attended. Not waiting a year for the next one. | www.mirusia.net
