29 The Fabulous Caprettos MUSIC Review TWIN TOWNS 13th JANUARY, 2024 Back in the day, sample pieces of vinyl and later on, CDs were given to radio stations by record companies in an effort to get music played. Knowing the Jocks didn’t have time to get through a mass of tracks on LPs, they narrowed it to a couple from every artist on their label. Being included was the launchpad to lots of radio airplay. You may well question how this reminiscence fits in with The Fabulous Capretto's Twin Towns concert. I wondered why I enjoyed this particular concert as much. Why it triggered mine and the collective memory of a showroom full of gregarious, greying teenagers. Hey, I’m being kind – I’m one of them. The thing is, The Fabulous Capretto's represent at least six or more groups and a multitude of entertainment careers all in two hours. Whoa, it's like getting a sampling of your most favourite songs from a stackload of people. It’s the Mr Whippy ice-cream tub version of music - with everything on top, thanks! I'll tell you why the crowd went kind of fun crazy. It was a full house. The sound was professionally crystal clear. It absorbed you in its path up to the back wall. The lights were dazzling, and I swear the people shimmered as well. The big reason for its success? It’s an all-star group. No subs, no learners. These guys wanted to be there. Russell Morris, Jack Jones, Rai Thistlethwayte, Jason Vorherr and Gerry Pantazis. While Daryl Braithwaite was busy with other gigs, Dave Gleeson from the “Screaming Jets” brought the Aussie larrikin feel to the group. What you had was a smorgasbord of gold, and no room for mould - just the way an audience wants it! Try these unbelievable songs that made part of the iconic set list: “Sweet, Sweet Love”, “Hold Me in Your Arms” “We Gotta Get Out of This Place”, “Lead Me to Water”, “Hush”, “In the Summertime” and “The Real Thing”. I love sell-out, feel-good fabulous concerts! www.twintowns.com.au Reviewed by 101FM Radio Presenter Stu Robertson www.101fm.com.au Photography by Michelle Cop (MC Photography) Members of the SOPO Scrabble Club recently celebrated Christmas with a luncheon at the Pacific Hotel in Australia Fair and then enjoyed a few games of scrabble and Secret Santa at the SOPO Club afterwards.
