2 Call 13 20 50 or visit breastscreen.qld.gov.au Advertisement Authorised by the Queensland Government, William Street, Brisbane. BURLEIGH WATERS | HELENSVALE | ROBINA | SOUTHPORT Aged 50-74? Book a free breast screen today, it could save your life. Women 40 and older can attend. Enjoying life due to routine breast screening Hollywell resident and mother of two, Jennifer Whiteway, is grateful that routine breast screening has meant she can continue enjoying life with the people she cares about. Jennifer was shocked to receive a breast cancer diagnosis a few years ago, at age 67, after needing further tests at BreastScreen Queensland’s Southport clinic following her regular breast screen visit. “I was diagnosed with multiple cancerous tumours ranging in size from 5mm to 19mm. What surprised and scared me the most was how rapidly cancer can develop,” Jennifer said. “The staff, doctors, and specialists at BreastScreen Queensland were very caring, sympathetic, and helpful to support me through my cancer diagnosis.” Jennifer continues to take hormone therapy as part of her ongoing care, following breast surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment. While medical appointments and treatments (and COVID) have meant Jennifer and her husband John haven’t travelled as much as they’d love to, she continues to enjoy time with family and friends, and her other passions like gardening, walking, and boating. Breast screening every two years can help save lives by finding breast cancer early. “I feel that if I hadn’t had my routine breast screen, the consequences could have been very different and I might not be here today to enjoy life,” Jennifer said. Jennifer urges all eligible women to have a breast screen without hesitation when they are due. Anyone, at any age, who notices any new or unusual breast changes should to see their doctor immediately. Women can attend free breast screening with BreastScreen Queensland from age 40, with those aged between 50 and 74 strongly recommended to attend regularly. Services are at Burleigh Waters, Helensvale, Robina, and Southport. A mobile service is also available. To arrange a free breast screen, eligible women can phone 13 20 50 or book online by visiting breastscreen.qld.gov.au Jennifer enjoying the Coombabah Wetlands

Two Gold Coast dive tour operators have been selected for the city’s newest tourist attraction due to open on 8 June, coinciding with World Ocean Day. Bookings are now open for experienced divers to discover this unique underwater world with tour operators - Gold Coast Dive Adventures and Queensland Scuba Dive. “This one-of-a-kind diving attraction will attract divers from around the world,” said Mayor Tom Tate. “It’s going to put the Gold Coast on the map for top diving experiences and I’m pleased to see two local businesses joining us on the journey.” Wonder Reef is located about 2.5 kilometres offshore from Philip Park, The Spit, at a depth of 30 metres, and featuring nine world-first buoyant sculptural reef flutes. Gold Coast Dive Adventures is based at Runaway Bay Marina and will offer scuba diving / freediving tours. “We are excited to be a part of putting the Gold Coast on the international stage of extraordinary dive locations,” said Harry Cottrell, CEO of Gold Coast Dive Adventures. Queensland Scuba Diving is based at Mariners Cove Marina, Main Beach and will offer tours for PADI certified divers and bundled experiences. “With the opening of Wonder Reef in addition to the existing Wavebreak Island dive site, the Gold Coast now caters to all scuba diving levels and experience,” said Dave Abrahams from Queensland Scuba Diving. Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said: “Wonder Reef is tipped to top the bucket lists of divers around the world and is part of our commitment to helping Gold Coast tourism build back better. “This is another great addition to the world-class visitor experiences that make the Gold Coast the world’s favourite Australian holiday playground destination.” Member for Gaven and Environment Minister Meaghan Scanlon said Wonder Reef’s potential as a diving attraction was exciting. “Wonder Reef is a Queenslandmade triumph of innovation and science with real coral plantings thriving and adding a kaleidoscope of underwater colour,” Ms Scanlon said. “With operators locked in and the website taking bookings, it’s game on for Wonder Reef on the Gold Coast.” The newwebsite was recently launched to give locals and visitors a glimpse at the world-class dive site. 4 For 60 years, Musgrave Hill Bowls Club has remained one of the Gold Coast's finest lawn bowls clubs in Southport. Now Club Musgrave, everything you need for an unforgettable occasion is all in one convenient and unique location. Club Musgrave has just finished a massive renovation. We firstly renovated the Bistro area. We created the outdoor Courtyard into a beautiful space to host any function day or night. It is dressed with fairy lights to set a magical atmosphere for the night. There are also fans and heaters to keep the area feeling comfortable during any climate. The Cafe moved around into the Bistro, which allowed us to make a Sports Bar. The Sports Bar is equipped with TAB and KENO facilities and big-screen TVs to watch your favourite team. We added a bar in the Gaming Lounge and renovated the Main Bar. The only area left was the Main Lounge. The Main Lounge is now beautifully complete. The roof was raised tomake the room feel more significant. The room was complemented with timber furniture and greenery. The stage was moved allowing us to have a larger stage and dance floor. (See advert page 5) A Gold Coaster's guide to downsizing With the kids moved out, you might be looking to downsize and make the move to a smaller home. Whether it’s for financial reasons or lifestyle factors, downsizing can be a challenging process. But if you plan it right, you can set the foundations for a fulfilling and enjoyable lifestyle in your golden years. Know your goals Be clear about what you’re trying to achieve from the start so you can effectively plan for it. Consider whether selling your current home and purchasing something smaller will free up enough money to help fund your lifestyle. Joe Farr from Platinum Properties, a specialist 4216 agent, recommends getting an appraisal of your home. "If you know what your home is likely to sell for today, then you have a good base to work out what you can spend on your next home. With the sudden boom in property prices, now is a great time to sell a larger home and lock in some profits." Be prepared to declutter Downsizing means disposing of a significant number of items, some of which may have sentimental value. Be prepared to do considerable decluttering as you move from a larger home to something smaller. Think of it as an opportunity to make a fresh start, because that’s what you’re doing. Compromise You’ll probably need to compromise to some extent with your new home. For example, you could end up settling for one parking spot instead of two, or maybe living a little farther from your family than you had planned. Decide where you’re moving There are plenty of options for downsizing on the Gold Coast, ranging from Over 50's villages and towers, modern residential apartments, and older smaller houses and duplexes. "We're finding many local downsizers are moving away from the village properties, in favour of modern apartment buildings. Some of these new apartments are in great locations close to public transport and medical services, as well as having fantastic onsite facilities with much lower ongoing costs than the Over 50's villages". If you're getting ready to downsize, give Joe Farr a call at Platinum Properties on 5500 7000 or 0422 400 680 and book in a free appraisal of your home. Joe also has a great selection of brand new downsizer apartments ready to move in, or available off-the-plan if your timeline is to move in a year or two. (see advert front cover)

From first contact with Michelle we found the prompt solving of any problems we had to be such a relief. The company and their staff are caring and efficient providing us with all areas of house maintenance, cleaning, care giving and assistance with the purchase of disability equipment. The company and management are a very hard working professional organisation and I’m sure one of the best on the Gold Coast for quality care of the elderly and people with disabilities. It is comforting to know that Michelle is only a phone call away to be there to assist us.” Julie & Joe Deakin, Coombabah “I have employed Home Care Assistance Gold Coast to provide in home nurse care for my wife Margaret. Margaret sustained a severe fall in November 2016 injuring her shoulder and her back. We have found the two caregivers provided by Home Care Assistance Gold Coast most professional, considerate and helpful at all times in fact going beyond what we envisaged the caregiving role to be. The Director Michelle Lye, is most attentive and helpful at all times I would have no hesitation in recommending Home Care Assistance Gold Coast for similar circumstances.” William M. Gold Coast “I have been with Home Care Assistance Gold Coast since 2015 and I have found the care given is professional and personal. The service provided is over and above the norm and Michelle, the director has made visits to my parents to ensure the standard and quality of care. My previous provider did not offer the personal touch to the service and I am very appreciative of the extra care provided. My parents who required high care is given the priority and Michelle makes sure that the service provided is adaptable/compatible to my parents needs, and I would be happy to answer any further inquiries.” Suane Goh, Gold Coast Home Care Assistance takes a unique approach to the care of older Australians. And at thirty-two years old, he’s swapping fighting the Taliban and Al Qaeda for a different kind of danger in the cut-throat world of high finance. His daily commute on the 6.20 a.m. train into New York’s financial district, to his new job as an analyst at the minted powerhouse investment bank Cowl and Comely, takes him into a world where greed, power, jealousy and ambition result in the financial abuse of the masses and the enrichment of an elite few. But it is on this daily journey that he passes a house where he sees something that sounds alarm signals he cannot ignore. A close friend of Devine’s, Sarah Ewes, is the first victim and the mysterious circumstances surrounding her death at Cowl and Comely compel him to investigate further. As he digs deeper, he discovers strange coincidences and unnerving truths. As the deaths pile up, and the major players show their hands, he must question who he can trust and who he must fight.
