2 Not many businesses survive 50 years on the Gold Coast. Gullivers has not only survived but thrived since commencing operations in Southport back in 1975 and moving to the current location in Coomera in 1998. There are many reasons behind the unrivalled success of Gullivers swim lessons. One of them is that lessons at Gullivers are simply so much better. It’s not just us saying it. It’s what people tell us who are moving over from other swim schools People enjoy Gullivers because it’s a family- owned single entity swim school and not part of a conglomerate of swim schools where there is no personal involvement by the operators. At Gullivers the founder and owner Terry Gulliver is still proudly involved in the day-to-day operations ensuring Gullivers continues to meet the standards they have become renowned for. Another reason behind the success of Gullivers is the unique teaching methods which ensure quick results and continued improvement. People also comment on the enthusiasm, passion and dedication of the teachers. Gullivers results are a real point of difference with twice yearly swim tests regularly showing two-yearolds swimming as much as 200 metres and threeyear-olds achieving half a kilometre. At Gullivers we do not just teach kids to be pool safe we provide them with the skills and ability to survive in most aquatic situations. With all that in mind, why would you go anywhere else? Gullivers Supersized Active OSHC Programme In 2003 Terry Gulliver started the Gullivers Before and After School care programmes. It was a natural fit for Terry, a physical education teacher in his earlier life. Terry’s innovative programme soon attracted the attention of the State and Federal Governments who then used his model for the now nationwide Active Afterschool Care programme. The Gullivers OSHC programme is now one of the biggest in the State and caters for over 200 children daily transported in our own fleet of buses to and from eight northern Gold Coast Schools. At Gullivers we offer an interesting, wide ranging and above all, an active programme, with lots of sports - free swimming lessons, Acro sessions, arts and crafts and cooking classes. At Gullivers the goal is to get kids active. Deliberately there is no screen time. ADVERTISEMENT The Crisafulli Government has introduced landmark legislation to Parliament as part of a nation-leading overhaul of Labor’s weak bail laws for both adult and youth offenders, delivering on its commitment to make Queensland safer. The Breach Bail, Go to Jail and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2026 is the next stage of Adult Crime, Adult Time, and will target youth and adult offenders who commit serious offences while on bail. The Bill introduces major changes, including: • Creating a standalone offence for committing a serious offence while released on bail. The offence carries a mandatory minimum custodial sentence of 12 months imprisonment, to be wholly served in custody. • Strengthening the bail threshold for serious offenders by introducing a new "high degree of confidence" test. Under the test, police or a court must refuse bail unless satisfied to a high degree of confidence that the offender will not commit another serious offence while on bail. • For youth offenders this is any Adult Crime, Adult Time offence. • For adults, a serious offence includes all Adult Crime, Adult Time offences, as well as Daniel’s Law child sexual offences. The reforms ensure a defendant cannot be granted bail unless they show cause as to why their detention is not justified and satisfy police or the court to a high degree of confidence that they will not commit a further serious offence while on bail. This is one of the most significant packages of bail reform ever taken through the Queensland Parliament. The Crisafulli Government is committed to making Queensland safer through stronger laws, more police, early intervention and rehabilitation, with Police data showing a 9.6% drop in victim numbers. The Crisafulli Government has committed to passing the stronger bail laws by the end of the year. BOOK GIVEAWAY TWO WAYS TO ENTER ... EITHER POST OR EMAIL... Dritan Dervishi, the cold-blooded consigliere for Albanian mob boss Roel Albazi, has arrived with a beautiful woman on his arm and a lethal secret in his suitcase. He has specifically requested Room 321 - a room with a perfect view of the sea, and a deadly proximity to a target he’s been dreaming of for years. Detective Superintendent Roy Grace is already pushed to the limit, coordinating the city’s massive security operation amid whispers of a potential terrorist attack. But the threat is more personal than he could ever imagine. Back in a prison cell, his old nemesis Albazi is counting down the seconds to a revenge that will not just take Roy’s life, but erase his entire bloodline. Eating Well as We Age Good nutrition becomes particularly important as we grow older. Eating a healthy, balanced diet can help maintain muscle strength, support the immune system, improve energy levels and assist older Australians to remain active and independent. While our appetite may decrease with age, our need for essential nutrients remains high. Protein supports muscle strength, mobility and recovery, while fibre contributes to healthy digestion. Calcium and vitamin D help maintain strong bones, and healthy fats support heart and brain health. Although healthy eating does not need to be complicated, preparing nutritious meals every day is not always easy. Reduced appetite, health conditions, limited mobility and fatigue can make shopping, cooking and cleaning more difficult. This may lead some people to skip meals or rely on foods that do not provide the nutrition their bodies need. Having balanced meals readily available can make a meaningful difference. It can help older people continue enjoying regular, nourishing meals while reducing the physical demands of meal preparation. For family members, knowing that a loved one has satisfying meals available can also provide valuable peace of mind. Gourmet Meals is a Gold Coast family owned business that has been preparing homestyle frozen meals since 1993. Each meal is prepared using quality ingredients and snap frozen to preserve freshness and flavour. Meals are delivered directly to homes throughout Southeast Queensland and the Northern Rivers, ready to place in the freezer and heat whenever needed. There are no subscriptions or lock in contracts, giving customers the freedom to order when it suits them. Gourmet Meals is also an approved meal provider for eligible Support at Home and NDIS participants. Healthy eating can be simple, convenient and enjoyable. Having nourishing, homestyle meals available can help older Australians continue supporting their health, wellbeing and independence. The Importance of Having a Will A will is one of the most important documents you can prepare to protect the people and things that matter most to you. While it can be tempting to put off making a will, having a clear and legally valid plan for what happens to your assets after your death can provide peace of mind for you and your loved ones. Making Your Wishes Clear A will allows you to formally state how you want your assets to be distributed after your death. Without one, your estate may be distributed according to the laws that apply in your jurisdiction rather than according to your personal wishes. Your will can identify who should receive your property, savings, investments, personal possessions and other assets. This can help reduce uncertainty and prevent disagreements among family members and other beneficiaries. Protecting Your Family One of the biggest reasons to have a will is to help protect your family. A well-prepared will can make it easier for your loved ones to understand your wishes and deal with your estate during what is likely to be an emotionally difficult time. For parents of young children, a will can also be particularly important. Choosing an Executor A will allows you to nominate an executor—the person responsible for administering your estate. The executor may need to identify and collect assets, pay outstanding debts and expenses, and distribute the remaining estate to the beneficiaries in accordance with the will and applicable law. Choosing someone you trust and who is capable of handling these responsibilities can make the administration of your estate considerably more straightforward. Reducing Potential Conflict The death of a loved one can place significant emotional strain on a family. Uncertainty about what the deceased wanted can add to that stress. A clear will can provide a written record of your intentions and may reduce disputes about your estate. It cannot guarantee that disagreements will never occur, but it can provide valuable clarity and direction. Conclusion Having a will is an important part of responsible financial and family planning. It allows you to express your wishes, nominate an executor, provide guidance concerning your children and help your loved ones navigate the administration of your estate. Rather than waiting for a particular age, level of wealth or life event, consider making a will when you have people or assets you want to protect. 7 It happens when you use your eyes to concentrate on something for a long time. Lots of things can cause eye strain. If you have eye strain, you may get tired, sore or itchy eyes. You may notice that your eyes are watery or dry. You may have trouble adjusting your eyes to focus on a far object after spending a long time on near tasks. Eye strain can also cause: • a burning sensation in your eyes • blurred eyesight, or double vision • difficulty concentrating • sensitivity to light • headache • sore neck, shoulders or back due to muscle tension Eye strain is not a disease. You can get eye strain from: • using computers, smartphones, tablets and gaming consoles for a long time • driving for a long time • reading for a long time • straining to see things when the light is bad • being tired or stressed • bright or dazzling lights • not wearing your glasses or contact lenses, or wearing unsuitable glasses or contact lenses • medical problems with your eyes If you are concentrating for long periods of time on a printed page or digital screen you tend not to blink as often. This can lead to dryness of the surface of your eyes and make your eyes feel tired. When you focus on a near object or screen for a long time, your eye muscles are working hard. As with other muscles in your body, eye muscles can tire out if you don’t give them a chance to rest and relax. If you think you might have eye strain, think about what you were doing before you began to experience the symptoms. You can make notes on when it happens so that you can tell your optometrist. An optometrist will examine your eyes and might test your vision. They might also ask you questions about what is causing your eye strain. The best treatment for eye strain is rest. Resting your eyes will usually ease the discomfort, at least in the short term. Your doctor or optometrist might also talk to you about: • eye exercises to make your eye muscles stronger • glasses or contact lenses, perhaps with coatings and tints There are several things you can do to help prevent eye strain. It’s very important to take breaks if you are concentrating on something for a long time, including: • when you read • when you use devices like computers and phones • when you drive Try the 20/20/20 approach: rest every 20 minutes by looking at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. You could set an alarm to remind you. Adults and children should spend time outside regularly. Relax your eye muscles by looking at something far away. If you use a computer a lot, try adjusting the contrast, the brightness and the size of the words on the screen. Adjust your monitor so that the top of the screen is just below eye level. Keep your screen clean to avoid glare and reflection problems caused by dust and dirt. Eye Strain is common Book your appointment today! BLEACH Festival is making a welcome move into spring this year, with 11 days of music, theatre, art, dance and creative experiences taking over the Gold Coast from 1–11 October. And while contemporary arts festivals can sometimes seem aimed at a younger crowd, BLEACH 2026 offers plenty for all ages to enjoy. For the first time, the festival will be centred around HOTA, Home of the Arts, with the precinct transformed into a lively hub of performances, installations, music and community activities. There are more than 50 free and ticketed events across the festival, providing plenty of opportunities to dip in and out without having to commit to a full day. One of the highlights is BEACON, a spectacular free installation in the HOTA parklands created by internationally renowned artist Morag Myerscough in collaboration with Gold Coast community arts organisation Everybody Now! More than 500 local people contributed ideas during workshops that explored what place and belonging mean to Gold Coasters. The installation will be accessible throughout the festival and takes on a different character as daylight fades. Music lovers are particularly well catered for. On 2 October, American soul singer Lady Blackbird joins Australian duo Electric Fields for a free outdoor concert. The following evening, New Zealand favourites SIX60 headline the HOTA Outdoor Stage alongside Sub-Tribe. For those who enjoy discovering new music while still appreciating a great live performance, these concerts could be a real highlight. For something a little different, THAW by Legs On The Wall combines aerial performance, engineering and environmental themes. The spectacular work features a giant block of ice suspended above the performers and will be presented at Surfers Paradise and HOTA Lake. There are also plenty of options for those who prefer thoughtprovoking experiences. VOICES, a talks and ideas program running throughout the festival, provides an opportunity to hear different perspectives, while theatre lovers can look forward to productions including Awake and Gold Coast company The Farm’s No One Gets Out Of Here Alive, which combines dance, voice, music, humour and pathos. And don’t overlook the simple pleasure of making a day of it. HOTA’s restaurants, café, bars and festival food offerings provide plenty of places to stop for lunch, dinner or a coffee between events. BLEACH is a reminder that contemporary art doesn’t have to be something you simply look at in a gallery This October, it spills into the parklands, theatre, outdoor spaces and waterfront — offering Gold Coast locals of all ages a chance to see, hear and experience something a little different. With many free events alongside the ticketed program, it is well worth checking the program, picking a few favourites and enjoying a spring day out at HOTA. www.hota.com.au BLEACH Festival Brings a Spring Celebration of Arts to the GC

She may also enjoy sharing her retirement with another calm, older feline who is happy to peacefully coexist and spend the day chasing the sunshine. She may have a small independent streak, but she forms a quiet bond with the people she loves. Sevro Animal ID:155130 | Australian Kelpie | Male 3 Yrs | Large | Chocolate & Tan Sevro is an easy-going, chilled-out Kelpie who enjoys life at a more relaxed pace. Like most Kelpies, he’s clever and will still need plenty of mental and physical enrichment to keep his body and brain happy. Sevro would suit an experienced working-breed home, ideally with plenty of space and secure 6ft fencing. He would love a property where he can enjoy the good life, but he’ll still appreciate regular walks, training and activities to keep him engaged. He is not suitable to live with cats, chickens or other small animal Kirra, Sevro and more wonderful pets are waiting to meet you at AWL Coombabah on Shelter Road, Coombabah.
