Here on the Gold Coast, living as we do in an aquatic environment, swim lessons are absolute necessity and effective results provide great peace of the mind for parents. Everyone needs to learn at some stage or run the risk of becoming a statistic in the annual drowning season What is the best age to start? The earlier the better. The longer you leave it the more risk for your little one. It doesn’t cost the earth to ensure your child’s safety around water At Gullivers we have a free programme for babies up to eight months. From there toddlers transfer into regular classes that will generally see them swimming confidently and comfortably as a two year old. While people marvel at these results compared to other swim schools, we see them as just normal. We regularly have two year olds swimming 25 metres and some three year olds who have swum a kilometre. How often should pupils attend for optimum results? The more often the better the result. Try to make two lessons a week and keep the lessons going year round. Our pools are indoors and maintained the same temperature year round When to stop lessons? That depends on what you wish to get out of the lessons. We have had many clients who enrolled at a few months still swimming with us 10 years on. The value of swimming lessons extends way beyond safety around water. A world-wide study showed children involved in early and continued swim lessons were physically, academically, cognitively superior and continued to outpace the non swimming counterparts right through life. Most parents want to see their little ones achieve absolute water safety in all situations. Only they can judge when that is. Others are happy to see their kids continue on and improve to the stage where they qualify for the squad training and do well in school carnivals. Over the years the Gullivers programme has produced more than our share of young champions. The 300 medals on display in our foyer, were achieved by just one of our pupils who won multiple Gold Coast, State and National titles. As the longest operating swim school on the Gold Coast, people ask what is the secret of our success and longevity.The answer is simple. A great team of dedicated, passionate teachers, several of whom have achieved legendry status having been with Gullivers for a decade or more and several other getting close to that milestone.
