Nominations are now open. “There are so many Gold Coasters who work tirelessly and give their own time to help improve our community,” Mayor Tom Tate said. “The Gold Coast Australian of the Year Awards is the time to recognise those people who are outstanding in their field and are role models for all of us.” There are four categories including: • Gold Coast Australian of the Year • Gold Coast Senior Australian of the Year • Gold Coast Young Australian of the Year • Gold Coast Local Hero “Since Christmas Gold Coasters have been going above and beyond to help with the storm response and recovery effort – show them your appreciation by nominating someone who helped your neighbourhood for the Gold Coast Local Hero Award.” A selection panel reviews all nominations and then chooses a winner. Last year’s awards were so successful that three of the four category winners took out the Queensland awards and are finalists in the 2024 national Australian of the Year Awards being announced by the Prime Minister in Canberra on Thursday 25 January 2024.
