2 Energy security is national security The Crisafulli Government knows that affordable and accessible fuel are top of mind for every Queenslander right now. Australia continues to be at the mercy of foreign markets and as a nation, we need to focus on increasing supply, refining capabilities and storage capacity. On May 28 2025 – almost 12 months ago – Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Dale Last, approved nine new areas for petroleum and gas exploration in Southwest Queensland. Because of the action taken by the Crisafulli Government almost a year ago, on February 10 this year, Minister Last announced oil had been found in the Taroom Trough. On March 5 2026, The Minister released another twelve petroleum and gas areas – totalling more than 7,000km – and again including land in the Taroom Trough. The Crisafulli Government has been approving land in Queensland for petroleum exploration long before the conflict in the Middle East because we understand the importance of having our own domestic supply. The resources industry in this state has a Government working in lockstep with them to unlock supply, drive down energy prices, increase fuel supply and create thousands of Queensland jobs. Queensland is open for business. The Crisafulli Government wants to secure our sovereign capabilities and the resources industry is responding to our call. ADVERTISEMENT Affordable Gourmet: Stretch Your Food Budget with Snap-Frozen Meals The rising cost of living is impacting households across Australia. From groceries and fuel to utilities and dining out, it feels like prices are increasing everywhere, and food is often one of the first areas families look to rein in spending. The challenge is finding ways to save money without sacrificing nutrition, flavour, or convenience. This is where snap-frozen meals can offer a practical and cost-effective solution, especially when they are prepared by professionals who understand balance, portion control, and real-world budgets. At Gourmet Meals, our range is designed to help Australians eat well, spend less, and reclaim valuable time, all while enjoying meals that feel comforting, familiar, and satisfying. When food prices rise, many people fall into one of two traps: overspending on convenience food or cutting corners with lower-quality ingredients. Both options can cost more in the long run, financially and nutritionally. Snap-frozen meals remove the guesswork. With fixed pricing, controlled portions, and no food waste, you know exactly what you’re spending per meal. There’s no impulse buying, no unused ingredients ending up in the bin, and no last-minute takeaway orders when time runs out. Gourmet Meals are prepared by internationally trained chefs and snap-frozen to lock in flavour and nutrients, ready whenever you are. This means fewer trips to the supermarket, less stress around meal planning, and greater consistency week to week. For anyone juggling work, family commitments, health needs, or simply wanting more structure in their food budget, this approach offers genuine peace of mind. One of the biggest benefits of Gourmet Meals is transparent pricing across all categories, allowing you to choose what works for your appetite, lifestyle, and budget. Whether you’re ordering larger meals for hearty dinners, regular meals for everyday eating, or vegetarian options to mix things up, you can plan your week with confidence. 4 Protecting Your Loved Ones with a Testamentary Trust When it comes to planning your estate, most people think only of Wills. While a Will is essential, for many Queensland families, a testamentary trust can provide an additional layer of protection and flexibility that a standard Will simply cannot offer. A testamentary trust is a trust that is created under a Will and only comes into effect after the death of the person making the Will (the testator). Unlike other types of trusts that operate during your lifetime, testamentary trusts are activated by your passing, allowing a trustee to manage and distribute assets according to your instructions. Why Testamentary Trusts Are Valuable There are several reasons why testamentary trusts can be beneficial: 1. Protection for Vulnerable Beneficiaries If your beneficiaries include minor children, adult children with special needs, or someone who may struggle to manage a large sum of money, a testamentary trust ensures that funds are distributed in a structured and controlled way. Instead of handing over a lump sum, the trustee can release funds gradually, according to the beneficiary’s needs. This provides security and prevents potential mismanagement of assets. 2. Flexibility in Distributions Trustees have discretion over how and when funds are distributed. For example, a trustee could release funds for education, health care, or housing expenses, while preserving the remainder for later use. This flexibility ensures that your assets are used in the way you intended, even years after your passing. 3. Tax Planning Benefits Testamentary trusts can also provide tax advantages. Income generated by the trust can be distributed among beneficiaries in a tax-efficient manner. While tax considerations should never be the sole reason for establishing a trust, careful planning can reduce the overall tax burden on your estate and your beneficiaries. 4. Asset Protection Assets held within a testamentary trust are generally protected from claims by creditors, divorcing spouses, or others seeking to challenge inheritance. This can give families peace of mind that their loved ones will benefit from the estate exactly as intended. Practical Examples Consider a parent with young children. Without a testamentary trust, any inheritance would usually be managed by a court-appointed guardian or given outright when the child reaches 18. With a testamentary trust, the parent can appoint a trusted family member or professional as trustee to manage the assets, releasing funds over time for schooling, health needs, or future milestones. Similarly, if a beneficiary has special needs or a disability, a testamentary trust can help ensure they remain eligible for government support while still benefiting from the inheritance. Key Considerations in Queensland While testamentary trusts offer many benefits, proper drafting is crucial. Trustees must understand their duties, including maintaining proper records, managing investments, and complying with the terms of the trust. Mistakes in the trust deed or Will can lead to disputes, tax inefficiencies, or unintended consequences for beneficiaries. When considering a testamentary trust, it’s important to think about: • Who will serve as trustee and whether a professional trustee is appropriate • How distributions should be structured for each beneficiary • Whether the trust will continue for a set period or until certain conditions are met Getting Professional Advice Creating a testamentary trust is a complex process that should never be attempted without professional guidance. Legal advice is essential to ensure the trust is valid, enforceable, and achieves your objectives. Tax and financial advice can also help you maximise the benefits and avoid potential pitfalls. 5 In the intricate workings of the human body, the eyes are remarkable organs that require a myriad of nutrients to function optimally and stave off diseases. The adage “you are what you eat” holds particularly true when it comes to maintaining eye health. A balanced diet is not just beneficial for your waistline but also for your eyesight. The connection between nutrition and eye health is well-established. Nutrients such as vitamins C and E, zinc, lutein, zeaxanthin, and omega-3 fatty acids play pivotal roles in maintaining eye health and preventing conditions like cataracts and agerelated macular degeneration (AMD). These nutrients act as antioxidants, protecting the eyes from oxidative stress that can lead to chronic eye diseases. Vitamin C, found abundantly in citrus fruits and vegetables, supports the health of blood vessels in the eyes. It’s believed to combat cataract formation and, when combined with other essential nutrients, can slow the progression of AMD and visual acuity loss. Vitamin E, another powerful antioxidant, can be sourced from nuts and seeds and contributes to cell protection from free radicals. Zinc, a mineral present in high concentrations in the eyes, plays a crucial role in bringing vitamin A from the liver to the retina, aiding in the production of melanin, a protective pigment in the eyes. Meat, poultry, fish, and legumes are excellent sources of zinc. Lutein and zeaxanthin are carotenoids found in the retina. They are natural sunblock for the eyes, filtering harmful high-energy blue wavelengths of light and protecting against oxidative damage. Leafy greens, eggs, and other foods are rich in these nutrients. Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA, are vital for cell membrane health in the retina and may help prevent AMD. Fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines are excellent sources of omega-3s. The Mediterranean diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, fish, and whole grains, exemplifies a dietary pattern that supports eye health. It’s not just about individual nutrients; the synergy of a nutrient-rich diet contributes to overall eye health and function. The significance of nutrition in eye health cannot be overstated. As we age, our eyes are susceptible to various conditions, but a diet rich in specific nutrients can help protect our vision. It’s a simple yet powerful truth: the food we consume can have a profound impact on our eyesight. Schedule Regular Eye Exams Routine eye exams are crucial for detecting potential eye conditions before they manifest symptoms and cause irreversible vision loss or blindness. This brilliant book had me hooked from the beginning’ – Alice Feeney, author of Beautiful Ugly Breathlessly compulsive courtroom drama with expertly-crafted twists that you won’t see coming, Dissection of a Murder is the razor-sharp debut novel from Jo Murray. A dead judge. A silent defendant. And a courtroom full of liars. When Leila Reynolds is handed her first murder case, she’s shocked at how high-profile it is: the murder of a well-respected, well-known judge. This shouldn’t be the kind of case she’s leading; it’s way beyond her expertise. But the defendant, Jack Millman, is clear. He wants her, and only her. To make things worse, he’s refusing to talk. How is she supposed to prove herself on what appears to be an unwinnable case? Losing is not an option. She must find the most persuasive argument. Trials aren’t won by convincing judges or fellow barristers – they’re all about convincing a jury. Suddenly, Leila finds herself fighting not only to keep Jack out of prison, but also to keep her own secrets buried. It’s true what they say – there are two sides to every story. For many, this isn’t just a festival—it’s a ritual. Over four days, Broadbeach transforms into a sprawling, open-air soundtrack, where the hum of everyday life gives way to guitar riffs, smoky vocals and the kind of live performances that stop you mid-stride. From park stages to tucked-away bars, music is quite literally everywhere you turn. This year’s lineup is stacked with both international heavyweights and homegrown favourites. Headlining the celebrations are The Teskey Brothers, making their long-awaited festival debut, alongside Grammy winner Ruthie Foster and the soulful Robert Finley. Australian talent is equally front and centre, with the unmistakable guitar work of Ian Moss, the highenergy The Bamboos, and crowd favourite Ash Grunwald all set to light up the precinct. Dig a little deeper into the program and you’ll find gems like Grace Cummings, MonoNeon and The Lachy Doley Trio—artists who blur the lines between blues, soul, funk and rock, keeping the festival fresh while staying true to its roots. What makes Blues on Broadbeach special, though, isn’t just the lineup—it’s the atmosphere. It’s catching a world-class act by accident while grabbing a coffee, it’s dancing barefoot on the grass with strangers who quickly become friends, and it’s the unmistakable buzz that rolls through the streets long after the sun goes down. In a time where many festivals are scaling back, this one continues to grow—fuelled by a loyal local crowd and a genuine love of live music. And in 2026, with a quarter-century milestone to celebrate, it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest and best yet. So whether you plan it or just wander into it, one thing’s certain—come mid-May, Broadbeach will be singing. For more information bluesonbroadbeach.com
