It’s my birthday month, the NRL grand finale at the start of the month and then as many more Australians start to recognise Halloween this will round out month out. It’s very important to stay vigilant during Halloween night, as many unsavoury types become opportunists. They can do this under the cover of darkness or as its Halloween they are brazen enough to come to your front door in disguise. May I suggest, if you are going to participate, you do it during set daylight hours only then secure yourself and your house. Remember to turn off your front light when you are stopping. People look for the front light on, to know if to come to your house and trick or treat. Whilst the night is a celebration for the kids and some adults, it can be very different for others. Please prepare yourself. If you feel unsafe, please organise for someone to come and stay with you, or you go and stay with someone for that night. As you know, I will always give my tid bit on scams each month. The ATO scams are still running hot. Please do not respond to any sms or email you receive, do not click on any links, do not return call or email to the address or number that contacted you. Majority of the time you will be communicating with the scammers directly. Please google ATO phone number and call that directly if you have questions. You can also google ATO sms and email scams to see what is happening. Please stay safe. Final Thoughts Our next Neighbourhood Watch Meeting is on Tuesday 11 November 2025 at 7pm. Please arrive early as we start on time. We also have cash ticket raffles on the night which are always great to take part in. If you haven’t already, please join our Oxenford Neighbourhood Watch Residence - Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ groups/oxenfordresidents. We will have regular updates on this page. Until next month, please look after yourself and your family, I hope to meet you in person soon. Shendelle Harrison - Area Coordinator Oxenford Neighbourhood Watch

Navigating Australia’s housing market Australia's housing market is a puzzle many are trying to solve. Most economists agree that solving the affordability crisis hinges on one key factor: increasing housing supply. While the federal government has set an ambitious goal to build 1.2 million new homes over five years, significant challenges are making this target difficult to achieve. The cause of the problem Australia has faced a housing undersupply problem since the mid-2000s, which has consistently pushed up home prices. The current government is dedicating more resources to this issue than previous ones, but progress is being hindered by deep-rooted issues. The construction industry is facing productivity challenges, exacerbated by labour and material shortages. Additionally, overregulation and complex development processes act as major roadblocks, slowing down the pace of new construction. The impact on the Market The demand for housing, fueled largely by a surge in net overseas migration, continues to outpace supply. While government policy has attempted to manage this through measures like capping student commencements, the overall trend of population growth remains strong. Despite these efforts, forecasts suggest that housing completions will likely fall short of the government’s target. This persistent imbalance means that Australia’s housing shortage, estimated at over 200,000 dwellings, is likely to continue putting upward pressure on home prices. At SK Financial Group, we understand the importance of staying informed about these trends. The ongoing supply-demand imbalance is a crucial factor to consider in your financial planning, particularly if you're a firsttime homebuyer or an investor. We're here to help you navigate these complex market conditions and make informed decisions. Ready to discuss how these trends impact your financial goals? Please include your name, address and phone number in the email • Entries close 10.11.2025 The Last Love Song is a compelling story of love and devastating loss set on the rural west coast of Ireland and in glamourous 1960s London, from the internationally bestselling author of The Seven Sisters series, Lucinda Riley. Sorcha O’Donovan dreams of an exciting life beyond the West Cork coastline where she has grown up. When she encounters the town’s strikingly handsome outcast, struggling musician Con Daly, her days will never be the same. When Con strikes gold with rock band The Fishermen in London, he and Sorcha look set for a rosy future. But their lives change beyond recognition as the dark side of fame rears its head. Death threats follow Con around, and devastating secrets from the past threaten to destroy everything he has worked for. Twenty years later, The Fishermen agree to re-form for the massive Music for Life charity concert at Wembley Stadium. But Con Daly, heartthrob and spokesman for a generation, has been missing for over a decade. There’s only one person who can find out what happened, who has access to the lives, loves and careers of all concerned as The Fishermen rose to worldwide fame. Only one person who knows how vital it is to uncover the truth, because should Con Daly reappear before the facts emerge, then history could repeat itself with even more tragic consequences. Lucinda Riley wrote The Last Love Song as Lucinda Edmonds, now reworked and revived by Harry Whittaker, Lucinda’s son and co-author of Atlas: The Story of Pa Salt. Glasses are like an extension of our body, and a perfect fit can make a world of difference. Here’s a guide to help you choose the most comfortable eyeglasses. Determine the Type of Eyeglasses You Need The first step is ensuring your eyeglasses improve your vision. Start with an accurate, up-to-date prescription. Then, think about the type of lenses that suit your lifestyle and visual needs. Some options include: • Single-vision lenses: For nearsightedness or farsightedness. • Multifocals: For those who need multiple focal points. • Reading glasses: For presbyopia. • Prism lenses: To correct disorders like double vision. • Plano lenses: For changing your look without prescription correction. • Prescription sunglasses: Offering both UV protection and vision correction. Consider lens coatings and add-ons like anti-glare or blue light filters, especially if you spend time in front of digital screens. These can enhance comfort and protect your eyes. Match Your Eyeglasses to Your Face Shape Next, consider your face shape. Selecting frames that suit your face helps distribute the weight evenly, avoiding pressure points on your nose, temples, or cheekbones. The goal is to find glasses that feel like a natural part of your face—lightweight and barely noticeable. Know Your Measurements Accurate measurements are key to a comfortable fit. Important dimensions include frame width, lens width, temple length, and bridge width. The bridge, the horizontal distance between the lenses, plays a significant role in weight distribution on your nose. Here are a few tips: • The bridge should not feel tight on your nose. • A slight gap between the glasses and your nose is acceptable. • If the bridge is too wide, your glasses will slide down. • If too narrow, they will create pressure on your sinuses. Consider Your Lifestyle and Personality Your lifestyle also influences the comfort of your eyeglasses. If you have an active lifestyle—whether in sports or outdoor activities—look for durable, flexible materials like polycarbonate. These are impact-resistant and lighter than traditional plastics, reducing strain on your nose and ears. For those who spend hours in front of screens, lenses with blue light filters can reduce eye strain. On the other hand, if style is your priority, lightweight materials such as acetate can offer both fashion and comfort. Choosing comfortable eyeglasses requires careful consideration of your vision needs, face shape, measurements, and lifestyle. Paris Miki Optical’s Store Manager Michael has over 32 year’s experience as a qualified Optical technician and has been working in the area for over 24 years. There is an onsite workshop for quicker spectacle making, so you don’t have to be without your own frames for weeks if using your own frame for new lenses; repairs can be done onsite and same day service is available on in store stock lenses.
