2 Great Super Shift: Why $4.3 Billion Fled Industry Funds For decades, industry super funds were the “default” for many Australians. But 2025 saw a massive shift. New data from APRA reveals a record $4.3 billion exodus from industry funds as members with higher balances sought better service and more control. Where is the money going? Much of it is flowing into sophisticated retail wrap platforms which saw a $3 billion surge in the same period. At SK Financial Group, we leverage these very platforms to provide our clients with a distinct financial advantage. Why the sudden move? As Australians approach retirement, their financial lives become more complex. The “one-size-fits-all” approach of large industry funds is often failing to keep up. • Service over Price: In retirement, being able to get a straight answer is more important than a slightly lower fee. High-balance members are finding industry funds less responsive to their specific questions. • Decumulation vs Accumulation: Industry funds are great at growing a balance, but many lack the flexible products needed when it’s time to start spending that money in retirement. • The SK Advantage: While industry funds only see your super balance, our holistic approach looks at your entire financial landscape. We utilise the latest advanced platforms and provide you with a clear, consolidated view of your whole financial world in one place. Take Back Control You’ve worked hard for your super; your fund should work just as hard for you. At SK Financial Group, we offer personalised, professional financial advice with access to the latest flexible platforms. Contact us today to book an obligation-free consultation and discover the transformative power of professional financial planning. 3 In the realm of vision correction, your optometrist serves as a guiding light, illuminating the path to visual clarity through the selection of suitable eyeglasses. Beyond merely prescribing lenses, they play a pivotal role in aiding individuals in selecting glasses that not only correct vision but also complement their lifestyle, preferences, and unique facial features. One of the primary responsibilities of an optometrist is to conduct comprehensive eye examinations to determine the precise prescription needed for optimal vision correction. This involves assessing various factors such as refractive errors, astigmatism, and potential eye diseases. Armed with this information, the optometrist can recommend the most appropriate lens type, whether it be single vision for near or distance vision, bifocals, trifocals, or progressive lenses for individuals with presbyopia. Choosing the right frames is equally crucial, blending functionality with style to enhance not only sight but also personal aesthetics. Optometrists are adept at guiding patients through the myriad of frame options available, considering factors like face shape, skin tone, and lifestyle preferences. Frames come in diverse styles, ranging from classic to contemporary, minimalist to bold, catering to individual tastes and preferences. Optometrists can recommend specialised lenses to meet specific visual needs. For individuals frequently exposed to digital screens, blue light filtering lenses can mitigate eye strain and discomfort. Those engaged in outdoor activities may benefit from photochromic lenses that adapt to varying light conditions, providing optimal vision in any environment. They can advise on lens coatings to enhance performance and durability. Anti-reflective coatings reduce glare and reflections, particularly beneficial for night driving or computer use. Scratchresistant coatings prolong the lifespan of lenses, ensuring long-term clarity and visual comfort. Paris Miki Optical’s Store Manager Michael has over 32 year’s experience as a qualified Optical technician and has been working in the area for over 25 years. There is an onsite workshop for quicker spectacle making, so you don’t have to be without your own frames for weeks if we are using your own frame for new lenses; repairs can be done onsite and same day service is available on in store stock lenses. 4 Antique Buyers in the Area In most Australian homes, there's a drawer. You know the one. It holds the tangle of old jewellery nobody wears anymore — the broken chain from an aunt's estate, the ring that no longer fits, the earring whose partner disappeared a decade ago. It holds the coins collected on overseas trips, the broken old watch, the bracelet bought in a different chapter of life. Most of us assume these things have sentimental value, or no value at all. What we rarely consider is that they might have real, financial value — sitting quietly while the gold price holds near historic highs. That's where father-son buying duo Mike and Nate come in. Mike and Nate are enthusiastic antique buyers with a particular eye for gold jewellery — broken or intact — gold and silver coins, mechanical watches, military medals, banknotes, and all other kinds of coins. "Everyone has something we want to buy," says Mike, "and nothing is too small for our consideration. We are just as happy to buy one item as we are buying ten thousand." With gold still trading well above traditional levels, now is an opportune time to dig out those old chains, rings, and brooches and find out what they're actually worth. "This is an ideal time to sell," Mike emphasises. "We will buy anything made of gold — old jewellery, coins, virtually anything, even gold teeth. We also need silver in any form, including coins and bars of any size." Don't overlook the coins. That old tin of foreign currency at the back of the cupboard could contain a rarity worth far more than face value. "We want to see any old foreign coin accumulations — bags, tins, folders, however they come," says Mike. "We'll go through them on the spot and give you a fair idea of what we can pay. You just never know what can turn up." Mechanical watches are also in urgent demand. Brands such as Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, Longines, and even some Gents Seiko’s can command strong prices depending on model and condition — and many people have no idea what a vintage watch sitting in a drawer is currently worth to a serious collector. In today's era of downsizing and decluttering, there has rarely been a better moment to open those drawers, go through those cupboards, and turn forgotten items into real money. Mike and Nate will be in the Gold Coast area this coming month, doing home visits. Call today to book yours. For more details see back cover. 6 City urges responsible pet ownership to prevent attacks • Mudgeeraba - 16 • Carrara - 16 • Pacific Pines - 16 • Upper Coomera – 16. In addition to attacks, there were 320 aggressive dog-related requests in 2025, including fence rushing and aggressive behaviour on and off leash. The City has launched a new campaign to highlight the consequences of irresponsible dog ownership, with most reported attacks occurring in public spaces when animals are not properly contained or under effective control. Dog attacks remain a serious community safety issue with more than 600 reported to Council in 2025, averaging 54 per month. Deputy Mayor Mark Hammel said responsible dog ownership was key to preventing these serious incidents. “Of the attacks reported to Council last year, a majority occurred outside the home or while the owner was present,” Deputy Mayor Hammel said. “Let’s keep the Gold Coast a safe and enjoyable place to live by ensuring dogs are on a leash in public, safely contained at home, and under voice control and supervision in designated off leash areas. “With many dog attacks still going unreported we urge anyone who experiences an incident to report it immediately for the safety of our community.” The new campaign is aimed at preventing dog attacks and reminding residents of tougher penalties brought on by changes to State law. The campaign ‘One bite can cost your dog’s life - Leash. Contain. Supervise.’ will feature across various channels including TV, YouTube, social media and outdoor advertising. “Owners can face hefty fines and potential jail time for serious attacks, with stricter requirements for regulated dogs involved in repeat incidents,” Deputy Mayor Hammel said. Suburbs with most reported attacks in 2025: • Southport - 33 • Labrador - 30 • Surfers Paradise - 28 • Nerang - 25 • Pimpama - 24 • Palm Beach - 21 • Helensvale - 20 • Coomera - 18 Oxenford Neighbourhood Watch As we move into the middle of the year, June is a timely reminder to pause, reset, and remain mindful of safety within our homes, our streets, and our wider community. Shorter days, cooler evenings, and busier routines can sometimes present opportunities for opportunistic behaviour — which is why awareness and connection remain key. Home safety is always worth revisiting. Please ensure doors and windows are locked, even when you are home, and don’t forget about side gates, garages, and sheds. Outdoor lighting, particularly sensor lights around entry points, remains one of the simplest and most effective deterrents. If you’re planning time away during winter school holidays, consider arranging for a trusted neighbour to collect mail or keep an eye on your property. Personal safety is equally important. When out and about, especially during darker hours, stay aware of your surroundings, keep valuables secure, and trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, remove yourself from the situation and report anything suspicious to the appropriate authorities. A connected community where neighbours genuinely look out for one another continues to be our strongest line of defence. Neighbourhood Watch thrives when residents come together — not only to share concerns but also to build relationships. A friendly hello, a quick check in, or reporting unusual activity all contribute to making Division 2 a safer and stronger place to live. Next Oxenford Neighbourhood Watch Meeting We are pleased to confirm our next Oxenford Neighbourhood Watch meeting will be held on: • Tuesday 11 August • 7:00pm sharp As always, all residents are welcome to attend. On the night, we’ll be holding raffles with cash ticket sales only, and importantly, 100% of funds raised are reinvested directly back into the local community. These funds support community initiatives and engagement activities that benefit Oxenford residents. Whether you’ve attended before or this will be your first meeting, we’d love to see you there. Your involvement, ideas, and presence truly make a difference. Thank you for continuing to look out for one another and for helping keep Division 2 a safe, supportive, and connected community. Stay safe and take care. Shendelle Area Coordinator – Oxenford Neighbour Watch

QPS officers made an incredible 658 donations during last year’s Lifeblood Drive, earning the title of Queensland’s leading emergency service for blood donations, helping to save countless lives in the process. This year QPS officers are determined to continue the friendly rivalry with other emergency services and together, contribute to the good cause. Senior Constable Darin Carruthers has been in the QPS for 36 years and having attended many frontline emergencies, knows just how critical blood can be to save lives. He has the rare blood type of AB negative, which he shares with about one percent of Queensland’s population. “Every blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives so by participating in the drive I’m helping to keep other Queenslanders safe,’’ Senior Constable Carruthers said. First-year constable Amber Johnson, 22, was nervous about being a first-time donor but was pleased she could contribute and wants to encourage community members to give blood as a simple, but powerful way to help others. “As a QPS officer, helping people is at the core of what I do every day, so taking part in the Emergency Services Drive is another way I can help outside of my frontline duties,’’ Constable Johnson said. “Being a first-time donor has been a positive experience, and it feels rewarding knowing that such a small act can make a real difference to someone’s life, and I hope to continue to donate regularly.’’ To find out more about giving blood, visit the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood website at www.lifeblood.com.au to find your nearest donation centre.
