2 Are You Tracking for a “Goldilocks” Retirement? At SK Financial Group, we know that clarity is the foundation of financial confidence. Many clients ask us the same fundamental question: “How am I actually doing compared to everyone else?” Recent data featured in the Australian Financial Review provides a rare look at superannuation benchmarks. Using ATO and APRA data, senior portfolio manager Steve Flegg mapped out what it takes to be in the “middle of the pack” versus the elite top tiers. Where Do You Stand? As we age, the gap between the average saver and the top tier widens significantly. Here is how the benchmarks currently look: Why the “Goldilocks” Zone Matters The top 25% is often the “just right” sweet spot. For a 50-year-old, maintaining a balance in this range puts you on track for a “comfortable” retirement (approx. $54,240 p.a. for individuals). This lifestyle includes private health insurance, a reliable car, and regular travel. Aiming for this bracket often allows you to maximise super income while potentially remaining eligible for a part Age Pension. Moving Up the Ranks Top-tier balances are rarely an accident; they are engineered. Key strategies include: • The 1% Difference: Switching from “Balanced” to “High Growth” options early on can result in significantly higher annual returns over time. • Salary Sacrifice: Utilising the $30,000 concessional cap is the most effective way to bridge the gap. • Consistency: The biggest jumps happen in your 40s and 50s. Those in the top 5% act early and avoid “de-risking” too prematurely. Are you in the Goldilocks zone, or is your super “under-leveraged”? Contact the SK team today on 1300 00 11 08 and discover the transformative power of financial planning. 1300 00 11 08 www.sedleykoschel.com.au see advertisement front cover 16 Dunkirk Close, (off Allied Dr) Arundel (2 streets south of Harbour Town Shops) | Est. 17 Years Order Online www.newlifefoodbarn.org or PH: 0410 565 781 HOME DELIVERIES Jacobs Well to Currumbin SHOP WED & THURS 10am-12pm, SAT 9-11.30am Pre-ordered parcels from $72 Supporting our community newlife foodbarn Food Relief for the Gold Coast D.G.R. 3 When life gets busy, it’s easy to let important health checks slip down the todo list. Between work, family, and everyday demands, that simple reminder to book a breast screen can often fall by the wayside. But here’s a friendly nudge — don’t wait. This small act of self-care could make a big difference. Peace of mind For most women, breast screening brings reassurance and peace of mind with most breast screens delivering a normal result with no breast cancer found. Many women say that receiving a clear result allows them to get on with life, free from that nagging feeling in the back of their minds. Early detection means more options The goal of breast screening is to find cancers when they’re very small — often too small to be seen or felt. When breast cancer is found early, it’s usually easier to treat and there are often more treatment options available. Early detection not only saves lives but can also lead to a better quality of life after diagnosis. Saving lives, one screen at a time Since the introduction of the BreastScreen Australia program, deaths from breast cancer have reduced significantly. There are different benefits and risks of breast screening depending on your age, risk factors, and other considerations. Regular screening mammograms are recommended every two years for most women aged 50 to 74 as the effectiveness of breast screening is strongest for this group. Free breast screens are available at BreastScreen Queensland services for eligible people aged 40 and over who haven’t noticed any breast changes. If you’re a woman aged 40 to 49 or 75 and over, with no family history or previous diagnosis of breast cancer, speak with your doctor to help decide if breast screening is right for you. Support is available The BreastScreen Queensland team are here to support you every step of the way. Videos and facts sheets in various languages can be found online to help you prepare for your visit, including information for individuals with disability and those who use a wheelchair or mobility aid. Interpreters and small group bookings can be arranged. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients visiting BreastScreen Queensland Gold Coast services, a Sistas Shawl (which can be worn or held during the screen) is offered alongside culturally supportive information. Convenient, quick and free Appointments are simple to book and available at convenient locations across Queensland. Permanent clinics are at Burleigh Waters, Helensvale, Robina and Southport. A mobile clinic visits other areas through the year including Nerang (February) and Elanora (March to April). Early morning and Saturday clinics are offered to help fit around your schedule. Book by phoning 13 20 50 or online at breastscreen.qld.gov.au Because peace of mind, early detection and better outcomes are all reasons to make booking a breast screen a priority. Regular screening could save your life

There is a girl in a basement. The door has stopped opening. The light is gone. Stranger is trapped in the dark, with only her imagination and the scribbles on the wall left by long-dead girls to keep her company. Nearly out of food and water, she makes one last attempt to escape. But if the door opens at last, will it mean salvation, or only the beginning of her fight to survive? Audrey is a search and rescue expert who never stopped looking for her best friend, Janie, who disappeared when they were teenagers. Janie used to love the local legend of a forest witch who saves girls from bad men, but Audrey knows now that for every one saved, there’s always another one lost. When she stumbles upon evidence in the forest that a teenage runaway might have actually been kidnapped from land belonging to the town’s most prominent family, she must dig through decades of secrets to reveal the biggest one of all: what happened to the girls before? However, regular checkups with an optometrist are not just a precautionary measure; they are essential for preserving the precious gift of sight and overall well-being. One of the primary reasons to prioritise optometric check-ups is the early detection of potential issues. Many eye conditions, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy, often develop gradually without noticeable symptoms in their early stages. An optometrist can detect these conditions through comprehensive eye exams, allowing for early intervention and effective management. Timely diagnosis can prevent irreversible damage to the eyes and, in some cases, even save one’s vision. Moreover, optometrists are equipped with the expertise to address refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. While it might be tempting to rely on over-the-counter reading glasses or online prescriptions, these solutions may not adequately address the unique visual needs of each individual. Optometrists tailor prescriptions based on a thorough understanding of the patient’s eye health, ensuring optimal vision correction. Regular eye check-ups are particularly crucial for children, as undetected vision problems can hinder their learning and development. Children may not always express vision concerns or even recognise them, making routine optometric visits essential for identifying and addressing potential issues early on. Good vision is integral to a child’s academic success and overall well-being. Paris Miki Optical has been servicing the Helensvale and surrounding community for eyewear needs since 2005. 9 Oxenford Neighbourhood Watch As the weather starts to cool off a little and we head towards autumn, it’s a great time to check in on your personal, home and community safety. A few simple steps—like locking your doors and windows, checking smoke alarms, keeping your letter box cleared, and keeping an eye out for your neighbours— can make a big difference. Changing Weather Events Severe storms can hit the Gold Coast unexpectedly, so make sure your emergency kit is stocked and up to date and your gutters are clear. If you’re heading out, make sure you check for changing weather conditions, especially if you’re driving on roads that become slippery or walking with unexpected weather changes which can catch you off guard. Email Scams Email compromise scams are a growing issue and can affect anyone in our neighbourhood. These scams often involve criminals pretending to be a trusted person or organisation—such as a bank, business, service provider, or even a neighbour—to trick people into sending money, sharing personal details, or clicking unsafe links. The emails can look very convincing and often create urgency, pressuring you to act quickly before you’ve had time to think. Neighbourhood Watch encourages everyone to slow down and double‑check before responding to unexpected emails, especially those asking for payments, gift cards, login details, or changes to bank information. Always look carefully at the sender’s email address, be cautious of unusual wording or urgent requests, and never click links or open attachments if you’re unsure. If something doesn’t feel right, verify the request by contacting the organisation or person directly using a trusted phone number—not the one in the email. If bank details have changed, please ensure you verify this before making payment, do not use numbers on email, invoice of sms. Use trusted numbers you have saved or google them. Never provide bank details to others. By staying alert and talking about these scams with family, friends, and neighbours, we can help protect each other and keep our community safe. Next Meeting: Join Us! Our next Oxenford Neighbourhood Watch meeting will be held on Tuesday, 12 May and will kick kicks off at 7pm sharp. All are welcome, so please come along and catch up with your local community. There’ll be raffle prizes up for grabs, and all tickets are cash sales only. Best of all, every dollar raised goes directly back into supporting Oxenford—so your involvement really makes a difference! If you would like to donate towards our raffles, we would very much appreciate this. If you’ve got ideas about improving neighbourhood safety or want to volunteer, we’d love to hear from you. Stay safe, look out for each other, and see you at the next meeting! • 1 tbsp olive oil • 2 tsp fennel seeds • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped • 4 x 300g chicken breast fillets • 200g cottage cheese • 55g (1/2 cup) shredded light mozzarella • 1 tbsp basil pesto • 40g baby spinach leaves • 400g vine-ripened tomatoes • 2 bunches broccolini Preheat oven to 200C/180C fan forced. Line a large baking tray with baking paper. Place 1 tsp oil, 1 tsp fennel seeds and half the garlic in a large bowl. Season and stir to combine. Split each chicken breasts horizontally, without cutting all the way through. Add chicken to garlic mixture and toss until well coated. Place cottage cheese, mozzarella, remaining fennel seeds and remaining garlic in a medium bowl. Season and stir to combine. Lay chicken on a work surface. Spread 1 tsp pesto over one cut side of each chicken breast. Top with one-quarter of the cheese mixture and then one-quarter of the spinach leaves. Fold chicken over to enclose the filling and secure using toothpicks. Heat remaining oil in a large frying pan over high heat. Cook chicken, in batches, for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden. Transfer chicken to the prepared tray. Add tomatoes to the tray and bake for 10 minutes.
