It became a New York Times bestseller, cementing Baldacci as a worldwide bestselling author of non-stop action fiction. It’s a deadly game . . . LuAnn Tyler is a single parent striving to escape a life of endless poverty. Then a mysterious Mr Jackson makes her an offer he thinks no one can refuse: a guarantee to be the winner of the $100 million lottery. But LuAnn won’t do it. Less than twenty-four hours later, she is fighting for her life and running from a false murder charge. Jackson’s offer – and its condition that she leave the country forever – seems her only hope. Ten years later, LuAnn secretly returns to the United States to begin a new life with Matthew Riggs, a man whose origins are as murky as her own. But a canny reporter has picked up her trail, as have the FBI – and Jackson. Matt Riggs is the only person who can help her. But is help what Matt intends or is he too closing in for the kill? Don’t forget to use your Optical Benefit before 31st December Sunglasses: A Summer Essential Australians are renowned for their love of summer. With over 85% of the population living within 50 kilometres of the beach, it’s no surprise that conversations often revolve around which beach to visit as the season approaches. However, summer fun comes with a serious caveat: the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. While we’ve learned to protect our skin, safeguarding our eyes is just as critical. Prolonged exposure to UV rays can cause both short- and long-term eye damage, including conditions like macular degeneration, cataracts, and even ocular melanoma. In the short term, it can lead to photokeratitis, commonly known as “snow blindness.” Australia’s high rates of sun-related conditions, including skin cancer and eye damage, underscore the need for better sun-safe habits. Although skin cancer rates are gradually declining, the incidence of sun-related eye issues continues to rise. Experts predict a significant increase in the number of Australians developing cataracts over the next two decades. Understanding Cataracts Cataracts, a clouding of the eye’s lens, often develop slowly over years of repeated UV exposure. While they aren’t caused by a single afternoon at the beach without sunglasses, cumulative damage builds over time. Taking small, consistent steps to protect your eyes can help reduce the risk of developing cataracts and other vision problems. Protecting Kids’ Eyes Children are particularly vulnerable to UV-related eye damage, making it essential to instill good habits early. When selecting sunglasses for kids, prioritise options that offer genuine sun protection. Wraparound styles that fit snugly on the face are ideal. Avoid novelty sunglasses or costume shop varieties—they might look fun, but they won’t protect young eyes at the beach. Expert Eye Care at Paris Miki Optical For high-quality eyewear and expert advice, Paris Miki Optical is a trusted choice. Store Manager Michael, with over 32 years of experience as a qualified optical technician, has been serving the local community for more than 24 years. The onsite workshop ensures quick service, including same-day repairs and lens replacements for in-stock items. If you’re using your own frames for new lenses, you won’t have to wait weeks to get them back. Make this summer not just a season of fun but also a time for smarter sun protection—for your skin, your eyes, and your family’s health.

I hope this newsletter finds you happy and healthy and ready to celebrate the festive season, however you see fit to do so. For some it is getting together with family and friends, for others it’s having time out, with no hassle or fuss, recharging the batteries alone or in quiet, and for others it’s just another day/s. I wish you peace and happiness in whatever way you choose. Oxenford have their Christmas Party on Tuesday 16 December with a 7pm start, at The Meeting Place, Oxenford. Please come and join in and meet some of the locals, enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. We ask that all attendees bring a plate to share and BYO drinks. Tea and Coffee are provided. As mentioned last month, the Buy/ Oxenford Neighbourhood Watch Sell scams have been skyrocketing. This is when a person tricks you out of money by posing as a seller. If you are purchasing over the internet, you really need to do your research and be sure the item is for real and the seller is legitimate. Once you pay the money, there is little chance of recovery. As December is traditionally a time of year people take leave and go on holidays, its also important to remember your personal and home safety. Have a plan in place, have emergency contacts updated and let the people that matter know your movements. Be careful not to share your movements with the wrong people and be careful of posting if you are away on holidays and your house is left vacant. A few tips to consider: • Do not open your door to strangers, speak through the door, or always make sure your security door is locked and speak through that. • If someone comes to your home in an emergency wanting to use your phone, consider making the call for them and keep safe inside your house, do not invite strangers in. • Get to know your neighbours, utilise them as part of your safety plan. • Be aware of your home escape route, what doors and windows can you easily evacuate from. • Do not disclose personal information to anyone outside of your close circle of friends and family. • Make sure your medications are up to date and you have enough to see you through any shutdown or leave periods. • Stock up on nonperishables. With the last few years as an indicator, anything could happen with our weather and power resources. Well, that’s a wrap for 2025. I hope you have enjoyed reading my newsletters and whilst I am very passionate about fraud and scams, I hope you all got something out of my updates. I look forward to greeting you again in 2026. I might seem a little shy when we first meet, but I promise, with some patience (and snacks), I’ll start to show you my sweet side. I would love to be pampered with gentle love and would prefer a quiet household where I can continue to grow my confidence every day. Other animals and young children would therefore not be the best fit for me, and instead I would love to have one or two special adult humans who will dote on my every need. If you’ve been wanting to give a sweet little kitty a second chance at forever, I’m your girl! Kipo, Ruby and more wonderful pets are waiting to meet you at AWL Coombabah on Shelter Road, Coombabah. Ruby Animal ID:144408 | Breed:Sharpei | Female 4Yrs 1M | Medium | Chocolate Ruby is a sweet girl with an independent streak who is now ready to find her forever family. She would be best suited to a home with Shar Pei experience, where her unique personality will be understood and appreciated. Ruby is looking for a calm and laid-back lifestyle with daily walks, plenty of love, and a cozy spot inside where she can be part of the family. Secure fencing is a must to keep her safe, and she’ll thrive as the only dog in her household. Because she can be unsure with too much hands-on attention, Ruby would do best in a home with older children (10+) who can respect her boundaries. She’s not suited to offlead areas or dog parks, but with her people by her side, she’ll be perfectly content exploring the world on walks and enjoying quiet companionship at home.
