Mr. Hammel, who was unanimously elected by his fellow councillors, has achieved this significant result in only his second term as a councillor. Beyond merely prescribing lenses, they play a pivotal role in aiding individuals in selecting glasses that not only correct vision but also complement their lifestyle, preferences, and unique facial features. One of the primary responsibilities of an optometrist is to conduct comprehensive eye examinations to determine the precise prescription needed for optimal vision correction. This involves assessing various factors such as refractive errors, astigmatism, and potential eye diseases. Armed with this information, the optometrist can recommend the most appropriate lens type, whether it be single vision for near or distance vision, bifocals, trifocals, or progressive lenses for individuals with presbyopia. Choosing the right frames is equally crucial, blending functionality with style to enhance not only sight but also personal aesthetics. Optometrists are adept at guiding patients through the myriad of frame options available, considering factors like face shape, skin tone, and lifestyle preferences. Frames come in diverse styles, ranging from classic to contemporary, minimalist to bold, catering to individual tastes and preferences. Optometrists can recommend specialised lenses to meet specific visual needs. For individuals frequently exposed to digital screens, blue light filtering lenses can mitigate eye strain and discomfort. Those engaged in outdoor activities may benefit from photochromic lenses that adapt to varying light conditions, providing optimal vision in any environment. They can advise on lens coatings to enhance performance and durability. Anti-reflective coatings reduce glare and reflections, particularly beneficial for night driving or computer use. Scratchresistant coatings prolong the lifespan of lenses, ensuring long-term clarity and visual comfort. Paris Miki Optical’s Store Manager Michael has over 31 year’s experience as a qualified Optical technician and has been working in the area for over 24 years. There is an onsite workshop for quicker spectacle making, so you don’t have to be without your own frames for weeks if we are using your own frame for new lenses; repairs can be done onsite and same day service is available on in store stock lenses. Wonder 2025 will see HOTA’s biggest and boldest artwork to date in a ‘not to be missed’ experience. CLOUD PLAY by international artist Partick Shearn of Poetic Kinetics, is the hero artwork for Wonder 2025, designed exclusively for the Gold Coast. Reminiscent of a school of fish coalescing, or the graceful murmuration of a flock of birds, CLOUD PLAY is a 530sqm kinetic sculpture that soars in the sky, harnessing the wind as a constant reminder of nature moving around us. Making up this stunning movement of artistry and engineering are tens of thousands of ribbons that hold messages from the Gold Coast community. The Sky Ribbons project undertaken in March, asked Gold Coasters to complete the sentence, ‘I’m grateful to call the Gold Coast home because…’. These written responses now installed within the artwork carry a living narrative that embodies the beating heart of the Gold Coast and its community in the spirit of gratitude. Complementing the sculptural majesty of CLOUD PLAY will be an ethereal soundscape that blends ancient indigenous knowledge with an original score and natural sound recordings by Saltwater man Lann Levinge, Jose Carbo and didgeridoo virtuoso, William Barton. By night, experience CLOUD PLAY in a different light as the team at IKONIX illuminate the work and site with a stunning display of light that responds to wind data and changes as the sculpture moves and dances across the sky in a symphony of colour. CLOUD PLAY will be presented with a suite of exciting free and ticketed events and performances as part of WONDER. Additional WONDER Programming will take place from Sat 31 May – Sat 21 June. Years ago, Nora Bridge walked out on her marriage and left her daughters behind. She has since become a famous radio talk-show host and newspaper columnist beloved for her moral advice. Her youngest daughter, Ruby, is a struggling comedienne who uses her famous mother as fuel for her bitter, cynical humour. When the tabloids unearth a scandalous secret from Nora’s past, their estrangement suddenly becomes dramatic. Nora is injured in an accident and a glossy magazine offers Ruby a fortune to write a tell-all about her mother. Under false pretences, Ruby returns home to take care of the woman she hasn’t spoken to for almost a decade. Nora insists they retreat to Summer Island, to the lovely old house on the water where Ruby grew up, a place filled with childhood memories of love and joy and belonging. There Ruby is also reunited with her first love and his brother. Once, the three of them had been best friends, inseparable. Until the summer that Nora had left and everyone’s hearts had been broken . . . .
