2 Healing Forward: A New Year Message of Hope As a new year begins, many people are not just thinking about what lies ahead, but also about what they are carrying with them. Some step into January with excitement and clarity. Others arrive tired, uncertain, or quietly hopeful that this year might be different. Wherever you find yourself, the invitation of Jesus is not to forget the past, but to heal forward. Healing forward does not mean pretending the last year did not happen. It means choosing to keep moving towards God's best for our lives, even when life has been difficult. It means allowing God to meet us in our weakness, not just our strength and guide us to restoration through the cross. The Christian faith reminds us that renewal rarely happens all at once. It happens slowly, through trust, grace, and small steps taken one day at a time. This, however, is not a journey we can take alone. Life is always lighter when it is shared. Community matters, and having people in our lives who will listen, encourage, and walk alongside us is essential for flourishing. Faith and hope are not strengthened in isolation, but in connection, through honest conversations and simple acts of care. Our prayer for you this year is that you will find the courage to keep going, the space to heal, and the support of others along the way. God’s presence is not reserved for perfect moments. It is found in ordinary lives, in real struggles, and in the quiet decision to begin again. At Authentic Church Ormeau, we aim to be a place where people can belong before they believe, and where no one has to pretend they have it all together. If you are looking for encouragement or community, you are welcome to join us at our Sunday services. During the week, our community food outlet is also open, offering practical support and connection for local families. Stop in, we’d love to meet you. With Love Ps. Tarun Stevenson Authentic Church Details about service times and the food outlet can be found at https://authenticchurch.com.au. From all of us at Authentic Church Ormeau, we pray God's best for you this year. 2026 Gold Coast Caravan and Outdoor Expo returns to People First Stadium, 6 - 8 February 2026. Explore the latest caravans, motorhomes, campervans, camper and tent trailers, slide-ons and a huge range of accessories and gear. From budget friendly setups to top end motorhomes, it is all here. Every February, the Gold Coast draws the spotlight of Australia’s screen industry. Held at HOTA from February 4 to 8, the festival offers not just glitz and glamour but a thoughtful program rich in culture, nostalgia, creativity and connection. One of the greatest drawcards for mature audiences is the lineup of film screenings and premieres. Many feature the familiar faces and seasoned performers Australians have grown up with. From richly told dramas to heartfelt Australian stories, these screenings offer an opportunity to enjoy cinema the way it was meant to be experienced — on the big screen, surrounded by fellow film lovers. The festival also brings a series of conversations, interviews and masterclasses featuring some of the Feb 4 - 8, 2026 country’s most respected filmmakers and actors. These sessions are ideal for those who enjoy diving deeper into how a story is crafted, how performances evolve, and what inspires Australia’s leading creative minds. For anyone who has ever loved movies, these insights are pure gold. Whether it’s strolling the HOTA grounds, attending an evening event, or simply soaking in the festival atmosphere, it’s an enriching way to spend a summer day. With its warm weather, accessible venue, comfortable seating options and well-paced schedule, the festival is thoughtfully suited to visitors of all ages. 3 HAPPY NEW YEAR! 127 LAHRS RD, ORMEAU

4 Free bowel screening available from age 45 The eligible starting age for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program has been lowered to 45, as recommended in the latest national screening guidelines for colorectal cancer. This means that people aged between 45 and 74 can now participate in the national program: • 45-49 year olds can join the program by requesting their first bowel screening test kit. • 50-74 year olds will continue to receive a bowel screening test kit in the mail, when they are due to screen. Bowel cancer is one of the most treatable cancers when it is found early. However many bowel cancers display no symptoms, especially during the early stages of disease progression. This is why bowel screening is important - the free test kits can help find early changes in the bowel, sometimes years before cancer develops or symptoms appear. If you have previously received a bowel screening test kit through the program but did not use it, you can request a free replacement. Free initial or replacement test kits can be requested by filling out a webform at ncsr.gov.au/ boweltest or by phoning 1800 627 701. The test kits are sent to the postal address registered with Medicare or DVA, so it is important to keep this address up to date. Start the year right and make an appointment to see the friendly staff at Paris-Miki Helensvale for all your eye and glasses needs. Book your appointment today! As we welcome a brand-new year, many of us feel that familiar urge to reset, refresh and refocus. It’s also the time when most private health funds roll over, quietly topping up those valuable extras we often forget to use—especially when it comes to eye health. For many Australians, optical benefits sit untouched until the end-ofyear scramble. But with a fresh allotment now available, January is the ideal moment to prioritise your vision and make the most of what your health fund offers. Regular eye examinations do far more than update your glasses prescription; they can detect early signs of glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts and even underlying health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure. In other words, visiting your optometrist is one of the simplest ways to safeguard your wellbeing. Start 2026 with eyes wide open, and make the most of the benefits already waiting for you And let’s not forget the fun part—new glasses. Whether you prefer timeless classics, lightweight frames, bold colours or something modern and minimal, today’s eyewear offers more comfort and style than ever before. If you’ve been putting off updating scratched lenses, stretched frames or ageing prescriptions, your refreshed extras provide the perfect incentive. Many health funds cover a significant portion of prescription lenses, frames, prescription sunglasses and even contact lenses, depending on your level of cover. Using your benefits early in the year also means you’ll have time to return for adjustments or explore a second pair if your fund allows it. Paris Miki Optical’s Store Manager Michael has over 32 year’s experience as a qualified Optical technician and has been working in the area for over 24 years. There is an onsite workshop for quicker spectacle making, so you don’t have to be without your own frames for weeks if we are using your own frame for new lenses; repairs can be done onsite and same day service is available on in store stock lenses. So as you map out your goals for the year ahead—more travel, better health, new hobbies— be sure to add “book an eye test” to the list. It’s a small task with a big payoff: clearer vision, improved comfort, and peace of mind.

6 Rotary Club of Ormeau-Pimpama SANTA RUN 2025 In late December we celebrated the much-loved tradition in our community – The Santa Run - featuring a procession of decorated fire trucks and associated vehicles that weaved their way through the streets and parks of Ormeau and Pimpama. The festive spirit was impossible to miss. Santa was truly in his glory, spreading the cheer everywhere he went, while his helpful elves delighted the crowds by handing out lollies and happily posing for photos with the excited youngsters. Smiles, laughter and a real sense of togetherness filled the air, despite the Grinches trying to spoil the spirit, but willingly joined in the fun. The fantastic crew of volunteers from the Rural Fire Brigade was entertaining the crowds with their water cannon spray antics engaging the youngsters in knocking the ball off the witch’s hat. Events like this remind us how special our community is. They bring families together, create lasting memories for children, and spread joy well beyond the holiday season. This wonderful event was jointly promoted by The Rotary Club of Ormeau-Pimpama and our dedicated members and the fantastic crew and volunteers of the Ormeau Rural Fire Brigade, who were joined on the run by a crew from the Pimpama Fire and Rescue Team and an escort from the Pimpama Police. A big thank you to all for their participation, hard work and commitment to our community that continues to make the Santa run a huge success. Special thanks to the management of Ormeau Village Shopping Centre for their ongoing support in donating thousands of lollies. A big thank you to Division One Councillor and Deputy Mayor, Mark Hammel, for his support and sponsorship. LIKE TO KNOW MORE?
