5 Did you know all heavy vehicles and trucks will only enter the new railyard from Goldmine Rd? The new Ormeau railyard will: • Increase traffic congestion • Create noise 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can expect traffic delays and worsening road safety on Goldmine Rd and Lahrs Rd because of this project. Concerned community members are calling for the temporary northern site access at Prairie Rd (off Burnside Rd) to become a permanent second site access for trucks rather than endanger the users of Goldmine Rd, including the students and staff of Ormeau Woods State High School, and residents of the surrounding streets and Lewani Palms Resort. The project will give us more issues than benefits! This is not a new train station for commuters. It’s a railyard for train maintenance that will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This means: • More noise: expect to hear up to 20 trains at a time shunting around the railyard and sounding their horns, as well as grinding and welding, and reversing alarms. • Artificial lighting all night: the railyard will be lit up around the clock. • Less community infrastructure: previous development applications for the site included lots of bushland, local parks and walking paths. This appears to be lost with this industrial development! Act fast to have your say! The project is running a community consultation and wants to hear about ways to minimise community impacts. This is your chance to ask the tough questions about how it will affect the local community. The opportunity to provide feedback ends on Saturday 2 March. Let’s preserve the liveability of Ormeau and protect everyone who uses Goldmine Rd. ADVERTISEMENT
