HILTON HARTLEY LAWYERS Pimpama City Shopping Centre, 102 Pimpama- Jacobs Well Rd | P 56 10 80 60 ORMEAU LEGAL - Legal Support You Can Count On - AML Requirements – What This Means for You AML stands for Anti-Money Laundering. From 1 July 2026, solicitors are required by law to take additional steps to verify our clients’ identity and understand where their money comes from. The introduction of these new AML requirements will no doubt make life a little more difficult for the likes of Pablo Escobar. For everyone else, the process is far less dramatic — but it does mean some extra paperwork. Think of it as a few more questions and documents rather than a major obstacle. In practical terms, we are required to verify your identity (which we undertake electronically), understand the purpose of the transaction, and ask questions about your source of funds and, in some circumstances, your source of wealth. This helps us understand where money involved in a transaction has come from and ensures we are meeting our legal obligations. For example, if you are contributing a deposit towards a property purchase, we will need to understand whether those funds came from savings, an inheritance, the sale of an asset, or another legitimate source. We may also require supporting documents, such as bank statements, settlement statements or other evidence to verify this information. If funds are being provided by a third party, such as a family member, we will need evidence showing where those funds came from and confirmation that they are a genuine gift (rather than a loan). In some cases, you may receive a secure request through InfoTrack to provide supporting financial records. These requirements apply to all clients receiving certain legal services — not just those who raise concerns. The purpose is to help prevent money laundering, terrorism financing and the use of proceeds of crime in legitimate transactions. Put simply: if your funds are legitimate, this is just a little extra paperwork. If you happen to be running an international crime syndicate… this process may be slightly more complicated. We appreciate your patience, cooperation and understanding as we comply with these important legal obligations. It is important to remember that these new checks that we will undertake are not a reflection of our trust in you as a client. They are now a universal requirement that is being imposed on all law firms and conveyancers, accountants, and real estate agents across Australia. One of the Gold Coast’s most spectacular annual events returns this August, with the Pacific Airshow Gold Coast taking to the skies from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 August 2026. As Australia’s largest airshow, it promises three days of breathtaking aerial displays over the iconic Surfers Paradise beachfront. Running daily from approximately 10.30am to 3.30pm, the action centres on the beach opposite Cavill Avenue, where visitors can experience an exciting mix of military and civilian aircraft, precision flying and thrilling aerobatic performances. Whether you’re an aviation enthusiast, a history buff or simply looking for a memorable family day out, the Pacific Airshow has something for everyone. Previous events have featured the United States Air Force F-22 Raptor, Australia’s Pacific Airshow Returns to thrill the Gold Coast F/A-18 Super Hornet, the RAAF Roulettes, gravitydefying Jet Suit demonstrations, beach parachute landings and beautifully restored vintage aircraft, including the legendary Spitfire. The excitement continues on the ground, with the Show Centre offering live entertainment, food trucks, children’s activities, pilot and performer signing sessions, and licensed areas where visitors can relax between flying displays. More than 250,000 spectators are expected across the three-day event, creating a vibrant atmosphere while showcasing the Gold Coast to visitors from around Australia and overseas. Even those without a ticket can enjoy many of the aerial displays from beaches and public viewing areas along the coastline. Visitors planning to attend the Show Centre are encouraged to use public transport, as parking around Surfers Paradise is limited during the event. A range of ticket options, including one-day, three-day, family and premium experiences, are now available. With the full flying program to be announced closer to the event, the Pacific Airshow is once again shaping up to be one of the Gold Coast’s biggest and most exciting weekends of the year.
